RWYB Santa pod :)...can Sprints take punishment

i have never really done anything harsh to my sprint like launching it from a standing start <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :o --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... rassed.gif ALT=":o"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON END--> <br>

is there any technique to getting clean off the line in the sprint? its in good nick with a new clutch and good tires and it seems like fun, but can sprints take the punishment of a standing start? <br>

are the gearboxs Diffs and clutch upto the stress the car is under? also the engine and high revving...talking about 5.5 to 6 k here <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :) --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON END--> <br>

also would it be better if i went 1st,2nd,2nd overdrive then 3rd or just stay out of overdrive ? <br>

Revs

Used mine in Sprinting competitions 5 or 6 years ago, in standard trim apart from suspension.<br>
<br>
Found it best to rev to 4k, and dump the clutch, which gave enough just about the right traction/spin balance to get quickly off the line. Certainly wasnt any slower than the usual tuned rwd escorts etc doing this.<br>
<br>
This was on standard tyres, and with a couple of similar practise starts.<br>
<br>
Did 4 Sprints in 2 years without damage to the prop / axle etc, so if the car is tight, it should be fine.<br>
<br>
Never tried RWYB, but should be good fun.<br>

Any car should be able to take a run or two without problems - its only 15-20 seconds or so of abuse (depending on how fast you/the car is).<br>
<br>
1st, 2nd, 3rd ,3rdO/D should be the way to go. You'll probably run out of road before needing to go 4th.<br>
<br>
In a standard Sprint theres little point revving over 5.5K which shouldnt particularly stress the engine over a short burst. <br>
<br>
Quite why you'd want to pay to drive in a straight line is another matter. You may as well drive up motorway slip roads for fun IMO!<br>

One way of checking how well the axle is tied down expect lots of thumps and bumps.........

Did one at Santa Pod a few months ago on a motorbike I had. It was quite a good laugh actually cos you have the 'racing' the person in the next lane to you element and getting down the lane as quickly as you can element. You get a reaction time, the standing quarter time and a terminal speed. For £15 or whatever it was I had about as many runs which I thought was excellent value.<br>
<br>
You will probably do more damage to your clutch in the que to get back round to the start lights as you tend to get a fair few people on these days. Other consideration is over heating in these ques. Some people have the bonnet propped open to assist cooling. There are people who toture their tyres in a burnout before they start their run. Unless you've got about 500bhp I wouldn't bother as it looks slightly ridiculous (You will see what i mean)<br>
<br>
As a rough guide, a couple of blokes in Ferrari 355's were doing 14.25 secs with a terminal speed of around 118. A couple of lads in tuned Fiestas were beating them which was very amusing. Standard Corsas were doing it in about 19 seconds, terminal speed of 87mph!! Anything close to a ton by the end was doing OK in a car. Be interested to know your stats after you have done it. I managed 11.97 on my bike with a terminal speed of 135mph but then 135bhp at the back wheel and about 300 kilos including me should be that quick!<br>

May I suggest start at a lowist 2500rpm and build it up,<br>
500 rpm go's till you find a setting to and the car like's,<br>
<br>
No point going there on your 1st go and exploding something,<br>
It's a question of getting the revs and launch right,<br>
To many revs you just light the rear tyre's,<br>
<br>
Never tried with a car but the Bike done it in 11.22sec's that's 134mph over the line and still spinning the back wheel in 3rd<br>
<br>
175bhp at the back wheel<br>
Suzuki Hayabusa ROCK'S and it's only a 1300

the knock comes from just being the drivers seat alongside the transmission tunnel <br>
<br>

Best I've done in the Sprint was a 15.78 sec with a terminal speed of 144.0kph (about 90mph). <br>
I found it much more difficult to get off the line without wheelspin on the drag strip than on the road or racetrack. Best time was achieved with 3500-4000rpm with enough clutch slip to stop wheelspin, until the car was well and truly moving. Pretty tough on the clutch I suspect! Good fun if you can find someone with similar time to 'race' against.<br>

Certainly sounds like your Prop centre bearing is giving up as i have had the same problem before and sounds like someone under your seat with a hammer.<br>
