We're thinking of putting on an active display at the Restoration Show at Stoneleigh on Sunday 28th March. We're toying with the idea of doing an engine swap and an overdrive conversion on a Dolomite 1300.
There are logistics to consider, but before we go any further,we need volunteers to help out....
We need mechanics, tea makers <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D"> ,people to help man the stand (selling merchandise, signing up new members etc),someone with a car trailor in case things things go pear-shaped and someone with a video camera to record the proceedings.
So...any interest?
-Andy.
Don't mind putting on overalls and peddling some spanners, providing we find some other willing volunteers to join me in the ritual 'skinning of knuckles'

Or is the abscence of volunteers telling us something? Must be a few people around who wouldn't mind getting roped in. I lnow alocal chap who is half way through the same conversion, be a shame not ot use all that has been learnt, eh Matt <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)">
Hopefully. If I can be of assistance in any way. Nearly finished the conversion myself.

Perhaps a list of tools could be compiled. It would be a shame to be missing the 'essentials'.

I'll bring some wheel chocks...and what about 'Liability Insurance'<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/roll.gif ALT=":rollin">

P'haps better stay at home!

Thanks to Carl for the following list of items needed;

------------------------------------------------------------
"Replacement engine
Engine crane + chains
Trolley jack
Axle stands (min. 2)
Some blocks of wood
Engine oil +filter
Water/anti-freeze
Gaskets (manifolds etc) + Hylomar/Gun gum etc
New Propshaft bolts
Tarpaulin for the floor ?
Overalls
Safety glasses
Disposable vinyl gloves
Suitable footwear
Oil drip tray + waste container
Water drip tray
Tools (sockets, spanners, screwdrivers, hacksaw)
Blue roll (tissue) and cotton cloths

(probably best to have a spare clutch kit handy, seal kits, hoses, jubilee clips, grease, WD40, swarfega, engine/gearbox mounts, – could maybe source some of the above at the show as a gimmick ie “supported by Floggem and Scarper Triumph Specialists”)

I’ve had problems with the exhaust manifold bolts on the small 4’s in the past so it would be highly advisable to keep a good spare manifold handy too if there isn’t one on the replacement engine.

Assuming that all the ancillaries need to be swapped over, I reckon 3 or 4 people could do the swap within the duration of the show quite easily. Perhaps the projector could be used to show an approximate timetable."

------------------------------------------------------------

I've got an engine and gearbox with o/d.I'm in urgent need of the rear mounting crossmember, though I'm hoping to obtain a rear gearbox mount (the rubber block),gearstick and wiring soon.I can't think of anything else - have I missed anything?
Will the speedo cable be long enough? It's been a long time since I did any work like this!
We're hoping to hire a van for the weekend, this should make hauling display equipment/engine etc easier. The plan will be to get down to Stoneleigh as early as possible on the Saturday afternoon so we can make a start on preparing the car for the engine swap - remove bonnet, transmission tunnel etc etc.
By the way,we revert to British Summer Time that weekend so remember to set your clocks! <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ns/eek.gif ALT=":eek">
