Whatever happened to that Green V8...?

Remember that green V8 on ebay?

No - it's not on there again!

I thought you lot might be interested....

After 8 months as my every day car (18mpg <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/eyes.gif ALT=":rolleyes"> ) I have taken the car off the road to do some work on it... (and to save my wallet!) with a view to going touring this summer. (hopefully getting in a couple of Dolly meets and a blast round the Nurnburgring along the way)

For anyone that's interested, the agenda is:

-Rewire that DODGY wiring in the engine bay. (done <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D"> )
-Repair rust in front end and wings (done <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D"> )
-Respray front end (this weekend, hopefully!)
-Respray the engine bay (again this weekend)
-Gone with the copper pipe induction(!) in favor of pipercross socks
-Oil catch tank, as on the track after a few laps the oil from the breathers was smoking on the exhaust <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /laugh.gif ALT=":lol">
-Remote oil filter, so I don't have to remove the radiator to change the filter!
-Ball joints
-Front suspension bushes

If you're still reading this then you might be interested in visiting my website... www.iamadam.co.uk/cars/dolomite/

Most of the stuff on there hasn't been updated for 3 years or so, but the car stuff is reasonably up to date.

PS. Anyone got any tips on spraying using a compressor? <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ns/eek.gif ALT=":eek">

18 mpg?

You have some serious running issues here mate...
My old P6 V8 auto used to do 23-25 and the current 3500S with SD1 box is nearer 30....
Well its not noticalbly worse than the dolly seven but sadly has no speedo cable...
I reckon you have fuel evaporation and need to do some fuel line rerouting. The V8 isnt that inefficient fuel wise and as you arent moving round a much greater mass you should be seeing Sprint type figures maybe less 10%..
so high twenties at least. Not 18...thats V12 Jag or range Rover territory.
I have managed to get 30mpg on a run up to Leeds - constant 80mph @ 2000 revs in top.

But it's the trafficy run to and from work, mixed with a bit of foot-down dual-carriageway that really stings the consumption...

Essentially I just drive it like it's meant to be driven, with no regard for fuel economy! (How else do I know it'll do 70mph in 2nd and the magic ton in 3rd.) It has also been "cammed" - it pulls HARD from 4000 to 6500 revs... Might partly explain the poor fuel economy...

Wouldn't surprise me at all if I do have some evaporation problems - and it is running rich at the mo... Great when you're at speed cos you get good induction, but round town, lift off the throttle and you set fire to passing pedestrians and cyclists. (We're talking two foot flames here!) <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/roll.gif ALT=":rollin">
Convoy to the 'berg sounds awesome! A mate of mine is going with a few mates in May. Apparently they're going to do a day at Spa on the way...

If I get the dolly back on the road in time...

Keen to get to some shows this year and meet a few of you - any recommendations?

LewisK - was it you I was bidding against in March last year then? <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)">

BTW - dunno if this might be of use to anyone, but I have a remote oil filter take off plate with a 3/4" thread on it which is surplus to my requirements - do triumph engines have a thread this size? I know it fits an SDI V8, but not a P6 V8... If anyone here could make use of such an item let me know - otherwise - on the 'bay it goes...

Cheers for your replies peeps. Jon

Adam

PS - SprintV8 - your dolly sounds like it's going to be absolutely awesome once that TVR V8's slotted in... <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/roll.gif ALT=":rollin">

No I never bid - I gave up thinking it was a hoax <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/roll.gif ALT=":rollin">

You MUST come to C.A.R.S (classic and retro, formerly Retro Cars Show) at Santa Pod. It's fantastic.

If you want, I can get a car pass and you can come on our stand, the more the merrier (we had biggest stand last year, Retro-Rides!). You'd be welcome!

And the strips open for 15 quid for as many runs as you can fit in <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/roll.gif ALT=":rollin">
C.A.R.S. certainly sounds doable from a time point of view - July 2nd should give me enough time to get the V8 finished...

And at Santa Pod, too - not too far from sunny St Neots where I'm based!

Let me check with "the boss", and I'll let you know whether I can make it or not <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

Like the sound of doing a couple of runs up the 1/4 mile! <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/roll.gif ALT=":rollin">

When is the Enfield Pageant - only ref I could find to this on Google was with the Ford XROC?

Certainly well up for a few events this summer - definitely been out of the scene for too long! (Used to attend a lot of classic car shows before I bought one... or three!)
Enfield Pageant eh? Might be a club member by then, could put it on display <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/roll.gif ALT=":rollin">

I'll make a note of it <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

Here you go Adam:

<a href="http://p206.ezboard.com/fthetriumphdolo ...

And if you've got nothing to do on Good Friday - Surrey Rodders wheels day is on, I shall be there, it's always a good show to browse, weather is usually stunning too!

<a href="http://www.antchip.com/carshows/Surrey2 ...

Oddly enough, Surrey Wheels day 2 was where I probably saw my first Sprint:

<img src="http://www.antchip.com/carshows/Surrey2 ...

This one - didn't really pay it much attention then! <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/roll.gif ALT=":rollin">
