Went to have a look last night. It clearly has had a fair bit of welding done but only 5% left? Don't think so.

The drivers side cills are done (didn't look closely) and the new wing is tacked on, needs final alignment. On the nearside the wing is off, the replacement looks good. The inner has had a fair bit of patchwork at the top. The offside door skins appear good but there is some scab underneath including a hole in the drivers. Only glanced under the car and couldn't get down the nearside. He says the nearside has had less work done than the off. I think I could see a couple of small holes in the passenger door where a mirror has been. There are holes in the rear screen surround in the top corners. I forgot to check in detail around the front screen but I'd have seen it if the usual suspects were showing through. The bonnet has some bad looking bubbles on the front edge. Rails under the bonnet looked fine. Pleanty of welding to be done IMHO but most definately savable.

It is under a bodge built car port with walls on three sides at the mo. This has led to a fairly bad case of surface rust pretty much everywhere especially at the front. The front panel is savable but has been bodged about and carries a fair bit of pug. If they were easy to get you'd just swap it and even in the current climate still would if you wanted concourse. It needs moving on a dry day and needs keeping under cover, a couple of rain showers would see all the surface rust take hold and go through in no time at all. A lot of the welding has been post treated with bonda but the coat of grey primer thats been put over the doors and blue offside wing looks like it'll fall off. This is not one to push in a corner to deal with in a year or two, it'll be scrap by then unless it's kept in a good garage.

The interior looks good from the little I can see. It's full of bumber, trim etc. There are some new bits of trim with it I'm told. All the right bits for the year are there, I get the feeling the stated milage is right. Under the bonnet needs a bloody good clean up, the servo is very rusty, the metal expansion bottle is there, the strombergs and engine look ok under one helluva coating of grime. The suspension bits I could see look like they will clean up OK. I think I saw a wrong exhaust system underneath but I doubt it matters, that age and non stainless will disintegrate if it was ever run. The radio is probably original. My opinion is that it is a complete and genuine project.

He's currently lost the V5 and the file it was in along with a whole bunch of old MOTs etc which is a shame. Never had a V5c. Don't even consider getting it running, even for the 20 yards up the drive. The chassis plate was there but removed due to the proximity of welding, WF13xxx DL IIRC. The body tag was missing but is probably hiding inside.

All in all it is savable but the piecemeal approach the current owner has stared is hopeless. It needs a total stripdown.

If I had a garage I'd have it, restore it in mimosa and add the vinyl roof then use it tax free. Then when it came time to sell or if the tax free date moved a year I'd convert it to be VA41.
