My better half used to have one many moons ago before we got into proper cars, quite a nice reliable runabout but its just a rather bland rebadged honda, certainly not a triumph.

Performance was really odd, up to about 50mph it was faster than my 2litre cavalier sportshatch, and still stayed with the cav up to 70. But over 75 it was like hitting a brick wall and was probably slower than a 1300 dolly! Max'ed out at about 85! Torque steer under 40mph was shocking!

I've never driven a car since with such strange performance, I can only assume its all in the aerodynamics and gearing.

Scary XE powered 1974 Dolomite Sprint Trackday Experiment. Maybe someday soon
2002 Octavia VRS - 20 valves, leather, a turbo and 146mph - Czech it out!!

One thing I always wondered about the Acclaim. There's so much on this car that does look a little bit like the cheap michelotti reskin of the late 70s, was this actually what a 1980s dolomite would have looked like, just attached to a Honda Ballade?

Dave, the full story is on the Austin Rover web site.

Must be missing something here, where does the Yugo come into the equation?

The white car pictured behind the Acclaim is a Citreon BX, if thats what you mean J.
