Alloy Wheel balancing

Just had my alloys nicely polished for the summer. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D"> When it came to balancing them, I had the weights stuck to the back so that they wouldn't spoil the rims on the outside. Unfortunately they fell off before I even put them back on the car! <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /tired.gif ALT="|I">

My local garage told me that its not worth trying this again, and that I will have to have conventional weights on the outside. Before I do this, I wondered if anyone else has had the same issue, and can recommend an alternative?

Thanks
