If I start the car up & leave it running in the garage until it is warmed up, it happily idles & stays at 1000 revs<br>

Once out on the road after a few miles, every time I de-clutch or stop the engine idles at around 2000 revs. A quick blast on the accelerator will knock the car down to 1000 revs, but they start to increase gradually back to 2000 revs.<br>

I have checked to see if the choke or accelerator cables are sticking & they appear to be fine The settings on both carbs also appear to be fine.<br>

Anbody got any suggestions.

Check the oil level in your dashpots

Check the springs on the carb linkages are operating properly and returning the choke / throttle linkages fully. They can occasionally pop off resulting in one or other not fully returning, producing a higher idle.<br>

After a closer look I found that the throttle cable, choke cable & carbs are fine. The throttle cable links to a bevel type device just below & in between the carbs. This bevel device is loose, not lining up straight & doesn't return fully when the throttle pedal is released. Is there any way of tightening this up or has it worn out & just need replacing.<br>

Excuse the lack of technical knowledge here. Looking at the Hayes manual fig 3.27 on page 81 (tuning & balancing the carbs) to try & explain the parts I looked at.<br>
