Fairly new to this, but have found it fascinating and useful to read what some of you guys have to say. I'm restoring a Sprint and have a couple of options engine wise - one of which is use the 45s I have. Interested to hear what's the general feeling on Webers on these engines?

I have Weber 45' son my Sprint and if you have some laying around I'd certainly use them.
However they will only give some real extra grunt in combination with a fast road camshaft.

Love the sound though.
Get them on along with an STR91 cam and you should see around 25 extra horses.
Its way more than that with an STR91.

Weber Carbs & sports exhaust alone will push a standard Sprint engine from 127 to 145 ish BHP

Stick in a genuine STR91 and some mild porting and its 170-180BHP no problem. easy 40-50BHP increase and a car capable of 7 secs to 60 if you drive it right (i.e. bloody hard!).

And the noise is just sublime as long as you dont muffle it with an airbox<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">

Go for it - Just don't complain at the next fuel crisis.....

Featherweight 1974 Dolomite Sprint - Soon to be XE'd, NOS'd, Megasquirted and 5 linked Lash up to scare myself (and my wallet) senseless

2004 Smart Roadster (company car!!) - 698cc of turbo'd adrenaline fuelled rollerskate - destined to classic status thanks to Daimler Chrysler bean counters.

1997 Audi A4 2.6 to chill out after the above and fill with baby products.....

2005 Trek 1400 (ok its not a car but still fast) -
a bit like Lance Armstrong but slower and fatter

Sensibly driven, the Webers aren't silly on fuel. When I was using mine as an everyday car on 45's, I was getting high 20's mpg.

You are of course correct Graeme, the bhp gains are greater with the 91 and 45's. Don't know why I said 25!

Oh and that airbox doesn't muffle them much. It still sounds like an absolute animal at full chat. At least, that's the way I remember it!<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)">
