Magnetronic... having a bit of trouble

Hi

Tried fitting Magnetronic elec ignition last weekend, but found the plastic disc with the metal plates did not seem to fit onto the spindle cams as described in the instructions (ie so the marked dot lines up with the rotor arm). The disc has slightly raised ' slots' for the cams to hold it in place, but they seemed too tight. I tried rubbing the slots down, whilst trying to keep their 'walls', but have probably now knackered the disc as although it now fits (so the dot / rotor arm line up), it now moves round the cam and therefore does not stay in place.

Needless to say the engine doesn't start now!

Have I messed this up or have I missed something? The disc fitted ok when the spindle cams slotted between the raised areas, but then the dot / rotor didn't line up.

Apologies if my terminology is inaccurate, hope my descriptions suffice!

The timing is fine, as I checked this with points before I started.

Thanks

Did you try running it with the dot/rotor not lined up?

Hi,

Yes I did. No joy. No spark at HT lead. As far as I know the coil is wired correctly, + and - to dizzy fine.

Was it a brand new Magnetronic kit? Only reason I ask is that my Sprint was fitted with one and after a while it just stopped running. We eventually found that the wires from the sensor inside the dizzy had rested against something hot and just melted through so they shorted out. Replaced it with the one from my Mini and it ran fine.
Never had any problems fitting the round magnet bit though.
