Coughing & Spluttering

#1 Post by MaddMart » Sat Aug 19, 2006 8:07 pm

Still having probs. with my Brooklands Sprint. At low revs and especially around the 2000 - 2500 rpm mark, car coughs & splutters but eventually picks up & drives through it. I've put new NGK plugs in and the dashpots are topped up.
Running K&Ns with BBT needles.

Have you checked the filter in the fuel pump?

I had this symptom a few months back on KDU and chased it around for ages. Thought it was electrical, ruled it out, thought it was fuelling, ruled it out, back to electrical etc etc, eventually transpired to be a small sand castle of bright metal filings under the cap of the fuel pump.

if the plugs and electrcial system are fairly new n in good nick, good sparks at all plugs etc next step I'd go down the route of flushing the entire fuel system, tank out, pipes, pump, filter, floats, carbs the lot, the only way to eliminate everything properly.
a right P I T A but worth doing I'd say, and going from back to front one bit at a time will mean she's still driveable in the meantime.
Very similar to the problem I had when I had the gold coil on. King lead wasn't making a very good connection. Have you tried a different coil?
