H-Piece

Excuse my ignorance as a relative Dolly newcomer but just trying to confirm the function of the H-piece in the cooling system as my Latham doesn't have one! I suspect it's used as the thermostat bypass circuit during warm-up, before the thermostat opens. On mine with straight hoses to/from heater, water pump and manifold this circuit would be through the heater if water valve is open and if not, then potential trouble for water valve and pump?<br>
I will knock up one of Malcolm's plumping specials as per his sketch for piece of mind (or is that H-piece of mind)

I'm no expert on cooling system dynamics. However, my understanding is that the H-piece allows Hot Water that exits from the head to find its way to the Water pump when the heater is set to cold and thus the flow of coolant is restricted, not that I ever have my heater set to cold. <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :o --><img src=

Malc is right. when the heatr is on, the hot water flows thru one half of the H to the heater. when the heater is off, it bypasses the heater and flows thru the other half

Thanks for the info, chaps. Broadly as I thought, without the H-piece and the heater set to cold I haven't got the correct coolant circuit, which ain't good on an engine which doesn't suffer overheating well! Will fix that one along with the myriad of other problems I'm finding.
