MY NEW RADIATOR EXPANSION BOTTLE HAS ARRIVED FROM RIMMERS AFTER MINE CRACKED EARLY LAST YEAR,
THESE LOOK LIKE THAY HAVE BEEN RE MADE AND ARE BRAND NEW. MY QUESTION IS THIS, THE HOSE THAT CONNECTS TO THE RADIATOR IS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE BOTTLE AS OPPOSED TO THE TOP OF THE BOTTLE ON MY OLD ONE. I HAVE LOOKED IN AN EARLY AND LATE PARTS CATALOGUE AND ALTHOUGH SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT BOTH SHOW THE HOSE COMING FROM THE TOP OF THE BOTTLE. WHAT DIFFERENCE TO IT'S OPERATION/IF ANY WILL OCCUR IF THE HOSE IS ATTACED AT THE BOTTOM.
I guess no stagnant water in the expansion bottle, which has to be a good thing.

I expect the top enty bottles have, or should have a tube inside so that pickup / delivery is from the bottom of the bottle. It's like that on top entry expansion bottles on spits, GT6s, Heralds and Vitesses. Without that tube as the water in the system cools and contracts air instead of water would be pulled into the system. Not good.

If your old top entry bottle didn't have that tube inside then consider your new one a very worthwhile upgrade.
2 sorts...the early ones have a black painted brass one with an apparent top entry pipe. This has a habit of coming unsoldered and thus not being air tight, on the pressure side of the cap too. Pants!....Not such a problem in winter but rubbish in summer.

The other sort is plastic and appear to have a bottom entry....these go opaque so you cant see the coolant level and being pastic, the pressure cap doest seal on some of them 'cos the flange is the wrong depth. Equally pants.

So get yerself a nice early one, polish it and make sure the top entry hose picks up at the bottom and is properly attached.
