Slack accelerator cable?

The accelerator pedal on my sprint does absolutely nothing for about 75% of its travel, and then all the throttle is within about an inch and a half of the floor. Is this normal, and if not, is the accelerator cable to blame?

Cable may have stretched slightly, but more likely the adjuster is out of kilter. Look for the threaded tube with two lock nuts where the cable joins the bracket beneath the carbs which can be used to tighten the cable.

Also check the pedal hasn't parted company with the bulkhead.
I'd agree

There's a good chance that the pedal has broken away from the bulkhead.
I had an 1850 that did that.
A pain to fix

bulkhead design leads to a crack where main loom goes thru grommet. What a PITA to weld that is....
Mine has a rivetted on plate and has had for ten years now....Only used to do 75 flat out for a while...
quick repair

The quick way to repair it is to sandwich the remains of the bulhead with two steel plates, and bolt through these. They have the benefit of ease of manufacture / fitting, and lack of cost. It's done the job very nicely on mine for a good while now!
I don't think it's fallen off the bulkhead, since I can still get full throttle. It's just that the difference between full throttle and idle is an inch. Which makes gentle driving a bit tricky.
tuning???

How well tuned is it??

Just a thought that if the idle has had to be set very high to keep it running because of a poor mixture, the first part of the throttle would be rendered useless, and the jump to full throttle would take place over a much shorter stretch of time...

Thought of this after playing with mine after putting new jets on...

Tim - not sure if I'm anywhere near the right lines with it, but anyway!

Good thinking. I only just bought the car at the weekend, and the weather is too cold and dark for tinkering. The previous owner had set the idle to 1300(!) to get round sorting the tuning. Even so, the pedal has much less resistance until that very bottom part of the pedal, which is why I thought slack cable.
