I need to remove the wings from a dolomite and fit them to a sprint with stuffed wings, as they are welded on does anyone know of a procedure to remove them and keep them in a usable condition. i know I have to drill out the spot welds but would like info on how to remove them around the headlights etc without doing too much damage.
Cheers, Darrell

the Dolomite is otherwise a basket case....
If it isnt then do it up...flog it on and wait for already removed wings to come up again on ebay....
is the donor car a basket case! if not it would be a shame to strip it.
a lot of 'lesser' dollys have been sacrificed for parts for sprints which is a shame.
as mentioned, grp wings would be one solution.<img src=

How rusty are the wings which need to be replaced? If it's just the section at the bottom behind the wheel then why not fit one of the club's repair panels?
If it's the section at the front over the headlamp,we're having a batch of repair panels made up for that area as well. It'll be far easier to fit those repair panels than to replace the entire wing.
These repair panels that the club produces (or is going to produce) - are there drawings showing which areas, exactly, they are for?

There's photo of the prototype repair panel in Dolly Mixture (I think it was the Christmas edition),but it'll probably be on display at the Restoration show on the 28th if you want a closer inspection.

I am in australia, so getting parts is a bit of a hassle, for you who are worried about the "donor" car it has been repaired and messed with so much it is pretty much a basket case. : )
About the repair panels, 1 wing is a write off but the passengers side has gone as you suggested behind the wheel and around the headlight. When will the repair panels be available and at what cost? I would have to organise freight to Perth Australia. Cheers, Darrell

The lower repair panels are available now, priced around £39.The front repair sections will be available as soon as we have enough orders to make the project worthwhile.A ballpark figure will be in the region of £100.We are considering dipping into the club's spares fund to finance production of the first batch of front wing sections, hence when the panels are produced they'll be available to club members only.
I know that getting new wings made would be expensive, but if there were guaranteed orders, would the club think about trying to get some new ones made? Surely someone's still got the "moulds".

The last quote we had was somewhere in the region of £300 per wing and there would a minimum order of something like 50 pairs (can't remember the exact number but it was discussed in great detail on an earlier thread). The conclusion we came to was that it just wasn't economically viable to have complete wings remade, hence the next best thing is repair panels.
