Im going to be putting a modern CD player in my car. (JVC's £80 one) I knw my rear speakers are going on the rear parcel shelf but I was unsure about the fronts... Im not to keen of cutting the door cards up. I was thinking of making small boxes and putting them on the front parcel shelf. Have you lot got any pics of your ICE installs <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... tongue.gif ALT=":b">
Buy a set with them already cut? I might have 2 black ones that fit the bill.

I bought some Pioneer ones that are already built in to the own enclosures, they were £25 from my local car HiFi shop.

If stereo separation isn't an issue (shouldn't think it would be with some meaty 6x9s in the back), get some small speakers and fit both of them in the dashboard where the original speaker went. Halford's do the custom fit sony ones, which are surprisingly loud.

haha <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/roll.gif ALT=":rollin">

you mean that head unit I gave you isnt much good???

kevs spec dolly in-car, makes/model numbers personal taste of course:

2 x 10" subs in box behind back seat.
2 x 6x9" rear parcel shelf
2 x 6" 2 way in rear doors
2 x 6" 2 way in front doors
2 x tweeters on top of dash
amps, passive filters/crossovers, gold plated phono plugs, big cross section oxygen free speaker cable, big cross section power cables to amps, fused at battery end, powered by engine battery (uprated to 85ah), via voltage sensitive relay so amp power only live when engine running so battery doesnt get battered.

hoo raa! pimp my ride, maaaaan! <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/roll.gif ALT=":rollin">

ps - no pics, doesnt exist yet, but if you want a pukka job, couple of extra bits of advice:

prevent irrititating rattles and vibration by gluing all clip on bits of body trim with silicone type sealant, use lead-lined sound deadening in footwells and boot floor, make sure bumpers are on nice and tight, and make sure your front and rear windows are sealed in properly to stop them parting company with the shell!

also, get ear defenders if its that loud, because it'll probably liquify your brain if you're in the car with it turned up!

I havent tryed the one you gave me. I was going to buy a speaker for it on the 4th but was told it really isnt worth it <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /laugh.gif ALT=":lol">

So I'm going the modern route <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">

Steve have you any pics of your front speakers? How well do the boxxes fit on the parcel shelf?
Check out Blaupunkt IC 400's. They fit beautifully on the parcel shelf and sound really good.

Martin the parcel shelf on 1300s nd dollies are different height wise. I know this as the speaker boxes that came off my dolly 1300 dont fit on my 1850 parcel shelf
check out this website http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk they are very cheap and the service is excellent.

i think this would suit your dolly but it costs a bit more than £80 - <a href="http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/popup_i ...

before you spend any money decide what you want from your car stereo.

a good basic setup would be CD player, 2-way component speakers for the front, a 4 Channel amp and a subwoofer.

when looking at power ratings only look at the RMS figure as the MAX, PMPO, Peak power, etc is meaningless.

eg most heat units say 4x50w max which is in reality about 10-20watts rms.
hmm. My idea was to use this CD player (same as Maurice has by chance honestly! <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... tongue.gif ALT=":b"> ) attatched to two tweeters and two errmm normal speakers <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ohwell.gif ALT=":"> and in the back on the shelf two of the same normal speakers and 2 10" subs. Thing is I have all the speakers as they came with my doly 1300. Probs go with the make my own speaker box idea.
I'm thinking that's probably a bit too much speaker for a head unit alone to push.

Oh yes, with all that lot and a couple of amps you might want to think about a more pokey alternator.

<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D"> indeed david. at least you can hear more clearly when things go crunch and bang and bits drop off... <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /laugh.gif ALT=":lol">

adam if youre going for the fat in-car, i'd certainly consider a decent alarm / immobiliser, one with either IR cabin movement sensors or pressure sensors at least. its a simple coat-hanger job to get in through locked doors, and pouring money into something that some shady TWOC'er can easily take a fancy to and walk away with quite painlessly, is not my ideal way to get rid of disposable income.

if you want to engineer the system properly you want a couple of amps, one for the subs, one for the cabin speakers, and/or the smaller ones can possibly be driven by the head unit. talk to someone local, ICE dealers are everywhere these days, and someone who knows what they're doing should be able to easily spec a system for you, that should include low pass filters for subs and high pass filters for tweeters, some amps have filters built in. stuffing inappropriate frequencies under power through expensive speakers will cause wow/flutter, minor distortion, lesser sound clarity at best, or possibly damage under prolonged abuse.

bigger alternator and battery (I sell batteries amongst other and could bore you to tears with tech stuff on this topic) definitely required to drive this lot, you could even go completely daft and consider split charging to a separate battery in the boot, preferably something like those optima or exide spiral cell gel things, lots of CCA's, compact, nice.

all comes with a fat price tag too, matey, you can blow 1k on this easily without the alarm, battery and alternator if you do it properly!

<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)">

ps - if you talk to an ICE place, make sure its someone reputable who knows the tech stuff, and not some part time nova SR boy. they should be able to show you the specs on frequency responses of the speakers vs what the filters will pass, on top of making sure speaker resistance matches what the amp is spec'd for, i.e. ohms. you dont need masses of power to make it loud, and sound clarity is surely the priority over how loud it is.

yawn. sorry.
