boot lid seal

Car came with the wrong type of boot lid seal and it makes it rather difficult to close sometimes. Have taken a good condition seal off of a spare lid in storage which will fit just fine. It was obviously glued on with something but not sure what the best glue would be. I also assume this task is easier with the boot lid off of the car.
Any suggestions as to a suitable glue most welcome. So far all I can think of is bathroom silicone sealant.
Its bonded on with a brush on trim glue. I can't recall the name of it, but if you speak to adecent paint factor, they will be able to help. I'll try and source the name soon for you

..but make sure you clean off as much of the old adhesive from both surfaces first (petrol or hot air). Then rough up the painted surface with appropriate grade wet n dry before applying adhesive.

Just about to stick my seal back on (new boot back from being painted).

However I now realise that there is a slit in the seal, I didn't note which way round it goes, I mean does the slit side go up against the metal or is on the exposed side.

Please ?

no one then? - could someone PLEASE have a look on their car then to see if the slit is exposed (?) if it isn't it must be on the inside against the metal.

It's just I'm planning to glue mine on tomorrow and I'd hate to get it wrong

Pretty please.

Sorry I can't help Alan. I took my old seal off and replaced it with a Quiller or Rimmer item which fits around the lip of the boot itself. It is a bit difficult to close the boot lid sometimes but that should ease in time and with use. Good luck. I'm sure someone will help you out....
I have just had a look and the slit on on the inside so you can get on with the task tomorrow.

Done it, took half a tin of Evo Stik (which incidently said wasn't suitable for cellulose paint), but the odd thing was (remember I was reusing the oringinal seal), that I had about 3 inches left over at the end which I had to cut off - very odd <img src=
