Welding on sills

I`m off to collect some sills from Alun next weekend and hope to get cracking with shortly after. Last time I did this job was on my old Dolly 1300 ages ago. Is it best remove the old sill up to beneath the door, then slip the new sill over the remains of the old one and use spot welds every inch or so along the top and then same for the bottom.

Top of the old sill left in place (an inch or so) then joddled to produce a step. The bottom welded on then the top was plug welded through holes every few inches to the remains of the old one. The plugs were then ground down and smoothed over to reproduce the profile, painted over to produce an invisible repair.

The way you describe it is much the same as I did on my 1300 only I didn`t use a Joddler. I think this is a tool I need, might come in useful when I crack on with the fwd too.

Method sounds fine but did you plug weld the outer to the middle / membrane?
