V8 Sprint Axle

Please help! I'm the proud owner of a Sprint with a 3.5V8 with 5-speed 'box, of which the rear axle has imploded..I would like to repair/replace with something that will be reliable without being too expensive. The spider-gears broke but crown wheel and pinion is fine. Comments on the following would be appreciated: Is the rest of a Sprint's axle strong, as Quaiffe reckoned fitting their Lsd will eliminate this type of failure: Has anyone tried a TR-8 axle and do they fit? As my current unit has disc brakes I won't mind keeping the housing if the rest was up to the task: I heard about a Hi-Lux unit too. I am relatively new to the U.K. and is still a bit green knowing about resources. Claimed output is 220hp, and my car has to defend its honour against boy-racers and entertain me at Santa Pod. All suggestions appreciated.
The Sprint axle is pretty tough but I wold imagine can wreck halfshafts with the sort of torque a tuned V8 puts out.
ALG1K (Cossie Dolomite) uses a HiLux axle which isnt much widr than a Sprint axle but you have to find one first and I'm not sure the ratio would be well suited to a V8. Others to consider are possibly a Ford Capri 2.8i Axle which will also have a good ratio for V8's though you will have to either get it shortened or fit wheel arch extensions. The ones fitted to 2.8 specials will have an LSD as standard and they are quite cheap.
I think the TR8 axle is a quite tough Salisbury unit but the mounting points are different and again there is the problem with the width. Plus you have to find one first.
My current project is fitting an shortened Salisbury 4HA (ex Jag I think) 4.6:1 LSD axle with a 5-link escort type installation into my Sprint but its not for the feint hearted as it involves cutting the floor pan and inner wheel arches - and forget putting a rear seat back in.
Only a Sprint Axle bolts straight in though modifying any live rear axle to fit isnt that difficult a job.
I guess it really comes down to how much you are able to modify the axle or mounting points ....
