Missing 1500 clutch fulcrum pin

I was asked to look at a 1500SE this evening and to give my comments on the clutch.

I found that the fulcrum pivot pin had dropped out. Has anyone been able to fit a new pin without taking the gearbox and bellhousiing off?

I advised that the improved type of pin with the top hat that prevents it falling out should be fitted - Part Number ULC2713

The car was driven away with a small diameter screwdriver pushed through the holes as I could not get the holes to align up to take something the size of the normal pin.

I do not know if the tolerance ring is still in place. If it has broken up or falled out how critical is this for normal operation? I assume that to replace it you would have to take the gearbox and bell housing off.

There is certainly a case for checking that your pin is not in the process of dropping out.
