water everywhere & I don't know where from! (waterpump)

My Sprint has been using a lot of water recently and a quick inspection found that the battery (£5 from the scrappy) had been bashing against the bottom hose when the engine flexed around. This had eventually caused a hole...hence my water loss. I changed the hose and for a few days all was fine but on checking again the car was still losing water (but nowhere near as much). So I got it nice and hot, and had a look. The engine appears to be losing water from an indentation in the block below where the bottom hose is connected. The indentation is about 2" by .5". Any ideas on what this is, and more importantly how to fix it?

Why would it send water external to the engine, shouldn't it just stop pumping?

still keep pumping albeit not as good.<br>
Top seal is gone and the water will bypass it and pour out the side of the block.<br>
Take the punp out and recon it.<br>
An easy job.

Yep, W'pump seals gone west as the chaps say. Do today, don't delay, the last thing you want to do is 'cook' your motor, on a Sprint (or any car with an alloy head) it is not a good thing to do.<br>

Manifold off<br>
Water pump cover off<br>
Pump out (might need a slide hammer) watch the LH thread bolt<br>
Strip & rebuild<br>
Refit and 'shim it up' with various thickness gaskets.<br>
<br>

Just had same problem with water pump,stripped & rebuilt using rimmer bros kit but now leaks even worst,Iknow I sound like a muppet but I need to know where I went wrong.!!!

1: Check u/s impellar has a flat surface for the seal to mate to, if not, get it machined until it is, else your new seals will do no better than the old 'uns..<br>

2: Replace the bush in the block.
