Re: How much when new?
That's interesting ! For Christmas I was given a framed repro; of a Dolomite poster from about 1978. There are a number of interesting items... * The fascia and door trims are described as "real walnut" . ( Is that so ? ) * Every car is sanded and sprayed by hand ! That must have taken som...

Re: Twin Webers DCOE Tuning
Congratulations on your new acquisition. Did you get any history with with vehicle ? The reason I ask is that if it is running Webers then it may have had other mods done like a very light flywheel and a hot cam to make it more like a track-day car. And you need the very fast idle to stop it stallin...

Re: New to me Triumph
My first push-bike when I was about 7 years old was a nice bright red Triumph.
I was passed on to my younger brother after about a year.

Slant 4 water pump parts ?
I have found some new Slant 4 water pump bits, together with some old parts. I know the old bits are well used because the oil seal is grubby, the bearing is rough and there is an old lower bush. The new bits are interesting. The bearing is a silky smooth RHP (!) but the water seal is different. It ...

Re: Fuel pump fitment
When I replaced my fuel pump some years ago I did a drawing of it and the Long Arm replacement ( Attatched ) If you print the graph paper out full size ( the squares are 1cm x 1cm ) and place the edge of the fuel pump on the left hand side you can check whether it is an early or a late version. Fig ...

Re: Sprint tail shaft
Hi Geoff, If you mean the propshaft, this should be a 2-piece split prop; originally. RKC 1840 for the manual car and RKC 1841 for the automatic. There should be a centre rubber-supprt bearing and the centre element should be a C.V. joint not a Hooke joint. The first question is ... what else has be...

Re: Best learner welder options?
I would highly recommend doing an evening class on welding tech; I was part of a small group from work who enrolled a few years back at Farnborough ( Hampshire ) technical college. It was 2 hours a week for 10 weeks and the lecturer was a very experienced guy from the local army camp. The first sess...

Hello to GPE xxx x on the A25 Dorking
Hello to a nice looking 1500 (?) on the A25 in Dorking at lunchtime. I was in the group and was going "wave-wave" from the east-bound pavement. I was with a group of walkers in the town. It was really nice to see another Dolomite.

Re: Need help to decode a Sprint engine number
As Steve says, the "SS" part of the engine number means it's a "Service Spare". I have one of these in my 1850 with a lot of B.L. history behind it. There is no engine number in the usual place on the cylinder block ledge and I only found mine when I had the cylinder head off abo...

Mystery 1850 (?) part
Anybody know what this is please ? It is made of black ABS plastic . It has no maker's name or other ident; on it. I think it is an 1850 Lumenition-style electronic chopper for their electronic ignition. Unlike the current model this version appears to be made in 2 parts so it can be fitted without ...

Re: 1850 Petrol Hose Sizes
Hi Dave, Thanks for your reply. I had a look at my fuel pipes and I see what you mean . Mine does have a slight kink towards the front carb; but not as pronounced as yours. Yes, it still runs close to the alternator fan. You can also see from the photo that I have again changed those 2 pipes for Pet...

Re: 1850 Petrol Hose Sizes
One remaining question - I'm having some difficulty refitting the air filter housing. It's the standard single box containing the twin round filters for the later 1850s. It may sound an obvious question but does the metal fuel feed line to the carbs tuck behind the filter box (ie the side nearest t...

Re: 1500 Needle Roller Bearings
Hi Mart / Richard. The quick one-line-management-summary is that the diameter of the layshaft rollers is 2.355mm. This applies to the 1300 / 1500 / 1850 gearboxes . 1980 parts book page 1F 04L refers. There was quite a detailed discussion on this on one of James 467 resto; threads to which Richard &...
