The above image is available on many sites, I personally think the lighter "good" colours are for moderns only, they run hotter and leaner.

I used the exact same method for my 1850 back in 82/83, travelling around Lossiemouth in the winter. Had to stop on longer runs and remove it though!

I would also do my best to remove the rust. If you don't fancy mechanical removal use a rust removal gel. When you've done as much cleaning as you dare, I would use a phosphoric acid based rust preventer, then a high zinc content primer, then several coats of paint.

Re Loctite, a good dose of heat usually does the job. I realise this will destroy any rubber...

If a rear fog is fitted, it will be tested. If a rear fog is not fitted AND there is no obvious evidence of one having been fitted, it depends on your mot tester whether or not they will do the due diligence of checking to see if it should have one or not..

Please cross-check the bolt part number. You'll need gaskets as well.
