Do you mean for fuel hoses?
If so I don't get any issues with the proper fuel hose clips (jubillee type are useless on small hoses) and that includes a car with a home-brew EFI setup and fuel pressure regulated to 3.5bar.

Re: Tie rod thread size
Hi
After fitting a steering rack, the ball joint on one side gets hard to screw onto the tie rod, the lock nut goes on no problem and I can see the tie rod thread looks rough. Anyone know the tie rod thread size and what might be used to improve the thread condition
Have you tried the other ...

Re: Paint Colour Matching
Some places will manually match a colour. I know Autopaints Brighton do (they are renowned locally, or rather the chap who does it is)
Asking around may find a place local to you. They need a panel or chunk of panel to match.

Re: Electric Fuel Pump
Not fitted one to my dolomite (yet, but will). However, I have fitted one to my Vitesse.
I used a motorbike pump from a Yamaha 600cc bike (makes 110bhp) which is very similar to an SU pump, it even has points. I bought 3, one for the vitesse, one for the dolly, one to be carried as a spare. All ...

Re: Blue or Red/Pink Coolant/Anti-Freeze
My new Rad is an aluminium upgrade Steve.
Does that mean Red/Pink is now best or is it still the blue stuff?
David
David, I tend to use this from GSF, in both my sprint (ally Golf rad fitted) and my spitfire (ford engine, ally golf rad, done nearly 50k in 10 years)
I use a 50% mix, no need to ...

Re: oil
Usual answer. It depends!
If pottering about and not working the engine hard, any classic 20-50 oil will work just fine.
If working the engine harder, look for a higher quality oil.
VR1 is pretty good, though when I tried it it needed changing at about 3-4k

Re: Carb/fuel pump woes.
I have had continual flooding problems since I changed the jets on my carbs, which are obviously not the cause. I have been through several sets of needle valves, thjought I had cracked it, but still get occasional flooding.

Re: Water pump seals
Ah, that is a shame.
I am tempted to make a brass or stainless ring up, something that is going to be more corrosion resistant than the cast iron.

Water pump seals
A few years ago I bought (and fitted) a water pump repair kit. It came with a ceramic rings for the seal to run against, and seems a VERY sensible idea.
I have looked, but I can't find a kit that includes that ceramic ring. Any pointers as to where I might find either the ring or a complete seal ...

Re: 1850 Clutch Change
I'm WF54182 but the car was converted from an auto years ago so I'm not sure what type of bushing mine will have. Might be a case of having to order both but I'll have a chat with the previous owner to see whether he knows.
Clutch fork I'll inspect at the time and keep my fingers crossed.

Re: Sprint tyres
I can recommend Uniroyal tyres, excellent grip in wet and dry. I have them on my Spitfire, very good.
On my sprint I currently have FAlken sn110's, but in 175/65 14 flavour. They have a complaint sidewall which seems to suit the car, and I am very happy with them.

Re: Recommended tyre for Dolomite 1850 for a reasonable price.
Longstone keep harping on about that test.
What we would like to see is their "classic" offerings up against the uniroyals and some of the other good modern tyres. That would be useful.
FWIW I have just fitted a set of Falken sn110 to my sprint. The sidewalls are pretty soft, which I think is a ...

My understanding is that they are there to reduce chattering, so only noise is reduced. And yes, they can increase wear a smidge.

Re: Dolomite 1300 gearbox?
And then there are the midget 1500 gearbox. Looks identical, except the input shaft has a taper/edge behind teh splines. Mike Papworth ran his hand over a gearbox I was selling, said nope, it was a midget box and not worth his time.
I guess they have different gearing.

Re: Dolomite 1300 gearbox?
Same gearbox fitted to dolly 1300, 1500 and spit 1500. I think from about 1974? (earlier cars used a 3 ail gearbox)
