Re: Project XJX (Pimento Sprint)

Looking really good Mart, love the way you just 'deal' with the issues you are finding.
That piston situation was certainly news to me!

The fuel pump studs were done by me after finding some good advice years ago on this forum.

I managed to get 20mins to look for the keys last weekend ...

Re: Project XJX (Pimento Sprint)

Hi Guys,
So yes, the cat is well and truly out of the bag. Well done Dave :D

One marriage, one house move, two kids and a cardiac arrest (I kid you not!) later and I finally have to admit defeat on the red sprint.
There was no way I was going to break it and after the failed joint venture due to ...

Re: Help with sills

The outer cill should sit on top of the shelf, it is made the right dimension to do so, but you do have to drop the existing shelf by at least the thickness of the new cill material in order to achieve the right lines and no fouling
Yep, that's what both Ken and I thought Alun.
We have tapped the ...

Re: Project 337 (1979 Brooklands Green Sprint)

Cheers Dave.
I have all the bushes in the loft, I'm sure I splashed out back in the day and they are quietly waiting for their day to come.
Chris Witor's Superflex are the ones for certain.
Might do some in rubber to keep road noise down.

OK, progress has been slow but is going in the right ...

Re: Help with sills

Hi, I'm doing a similar thing to mine soon, in fact the removal of one sides cill is complete.
i hope this helps! the pictures dont show it that well but you will need to keep the shelf underneath the doors as the club panels dont come with it.
I can't quite make it out from your pics but...

Re: Quick question on replacing cills.

Excellent Ian, thanks.
Yes, the inners look fine on the outside, only one small hole on one side.
That puts a whole new slant on it. :D

Practise welding has come on a treat now with a proper gas bottle and light reactive mask.
I'm certainly no expert but much better than a few weeks ago.

Re: Quick question on replacing cills.

Cheers Guys, some very useful info there.
I was going to sub this work out but I've been surprised by my own test efforts on scrap steel that I may do it on my own....not sure yet....

Rotating on a spit would be nice but would possibly look a little out of place on my driveway

I was ...

Re: Quick question on replacing cills.

Sounds reasonable Jonners, thanks
Support the car evenly before cutting and it wont distort.
I was thinking along the lines of a scaffold board along the length of the car.
Lifted slightly onto two/three axle stands.
Just to take the strain off the suspension but not necessarily wheels in the air ...

Quick question on replacing cills.

How much of the outer cill can be removed for inspection of the inner/reinforcer without needing additional support of the chassis?
The car is free standing on its wheels at the moment.

There are various perforations in both outer cills.
Regarding the inner cills, a small hole was found on the O/S ...

Re: Project 337 (1979 Brooklands Green Sprint)

Cheers guys, really good to be getting back into this and see all the familiars faces are still here, although where's Justyn?

OK so this car has sat on the driveway for far too long unloved, even the cover was shot....

Re: Chassis Leg Replacement

Right so I've finally admitted that I need to replace my whole leg (on the car). I'm confident I can chop away the old one as much as possible and then grind the rest away until there's nothing left. My question is, how do I go about attaching a new one?
Like this..?
