Re: Forum Update

I could just about use the old format on a mobile, but it was a pain. New format is great. I'd say I'm 50:50 mobile vs laptop.
This format works GREAT on both.

Re: 1850 fueling

If it was me I'd start looking for fuel flow problems. If you can jerry-rig an appropriate low pressure electric fuel pump in place of the standard mechanical one. Also if you can - get a fuel pressure gauge in the feed to the carbs that you can see as you hit the 5400 "limit". Check for i...

Forum Update

Great work to whoever manages the forum. New format is great and way more readable on a mobile.
Thanks for your work!

Re: West Yorkshire Meetings

Bit of a moot point as I'm now all the way over in East Yorkshire these days, but not far from the Brickworks is the Bobbin Carrier, which used to be a decent place. https://www.google.com/maps/place/Bobbin+Carrier/@53.7357354,-1.7233652,81m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m15!1m8!3m7!1s0x487be09727410c15:0xe94a249c...

Re: Sprint additional top end oil spray / feed

Top end oil feeds usually tee off the galleries via a blanking plug on the block. Thus they MUST be restricted otherwise they'll starve the front mains of oil pressure. IMHO not needed on a road car and of dubious benefit even on a track car.

Re: 1850 Register launch

Hi Sean, I took a look at the form - from my point of view I got as far as "Model" and as a bit of a pedant I got stuck. My cars is a Dolomite and it has an 1850 slant 4 - factory fit. But the model is neither 1850 nor 1850 HL. The model is technically "Dolomite" as it's an earl...

Re: Best learner welder options?

I would highly recommend doing an evening class on welding tech; I was part of a small group from work who enrolled a few years back at Farnborough ( Hampshire ) technical college. It was 2 hours a week for 10 weeks and the lecturer was a very experienced guy from the local army camp. It's a really...

Re: 1500 running woes

Not saying it's not guilty, but Ei systems usually either work as advertised - or don't work at all! There's not usually any middle ground. But I could be wrong, it has been known! Steve 90%+ would agree, but... last time I had the Spitfire rolling road tuned the EI was intermittent - I was embarra...

Re: Best learner welder options?

£1500? I budget I could only dream of. I started out with one of these (not mine, but same model in similar condition) second hand off ebay for about £80 many many many years ago. It's done a lot of faithful service but is a b1tch to use on thin body panels. https://i.postimg.cc/ct74dhjG/clarke-mig....

Re: Steering lock shear bolts

Largely irrelevant here, but for those interested, on Spitfires even up to the 1500 model the sheer bolts on the lock/ignition assembly are recessed into the lock housing and are UNC. This makes the use of cap-heads tricky. So I ground down some button heads to make something similar to the original...
