Re: 1974 Spa 24 Hours - Butch Racing Dolomite Sprint (Group 1)
A little teaser update, the car is getting very close to completion. We are rushed off our feet in the workshop at the moment but will do a proper update soon

Re: 1974 Spa 24 Hours - Butch Racing Dolomite Sprint (Group 1)
Is there a "spot the deliberate mistake" prize?
Factory production Sprints all carry their brake calipers BEHIND the axle centre line (mounts are available for both fitments on the standard car) I can see how one could think they should be ahead of the axle line from the position of the front ...

Re: 1974 Spa 24 Hours - Butch Racing Dolomite Sprint (Group 1)
Last week the car went to Aldridge Trimming for its new vinyl roof to be fitted. I've got to say the standard of work is amazing and i'm really glad its not something we tried to do ourselves. They turned the car around in less than 3 days as well so overall a big thumbs up

Re: 1974 Spa 24 Hours - Butch Racing Dolomite Sprint (Group 1)
Some more large and overdue updates which should hopefully bring you all up to date on where we are with the car. As the race season draws to an end it has meant more time available in the workshop to crack on with the Dolomite :D

Re: 1974 Spa 24 Hours - Butch Racing Dolomite Sprint (Group 1)
The doors are now almost complete and the engine is finally back in the car. The windows are polycarbonate but we are retaining the winder mechanisms so they work as normal. All of the rubbers and weather strips are new.
Due to the location of the roll cage I have had to notch out the wooden door ...

Re: 1974 Spa 24 Hours - Butch Racing Dolomite Sprint (Group 1)
I have a new PC and when sorting out all data and pics what to transfer from the old to the new I found some pics .
I have also a lot of pics of the yellow livery.
Jeroen
Hi Jeroen,
Those are great pictures, and if you have any more from when it was yellow that would be great! Do you know ...

Re: 1974 Spa 24 Hours - Butch Racing Dolomite Sprint (Group 1)
Our new aluminium tank has just arrived and I am very happy with it! Baffled and foam filled with a central fuel pickup to avoid fuel starvation, with a modern AN-6 outlet fuel fitting and sender unit removed. It fits perfectly and doesn't look out of place in the boot. The car ran in period with a ...

Re: 1974 Spa 24 Hours - Butch Racing Dolomite Sprint (Group 1)
It will be a nice car when finished but it lost it's soul. It could be any track Dolomite now and nothing reminds on the original heritage and history.
Jeroen.
Hi Jeroen,
I would have to politely disagree with this statement, as we are actually restoring the car to be as close to its original ...

Re: 1974 Spa 24 Hours - Butch Racing Dolomite Sprint (Group 1)
The car is looking nice, have you fitted a spacer in the brake calipers to be able to fit vented disc ? on the rear diff did you fit a drain plug ?
dave
Hi Dave,
Yes the calipers and discs were supplied by Ken Clarke and have spacers to allow for the vented discs. The axle casing does have a ...

Re: 1974 Spa 24 Hours - Butch Racing Dolomite Sprint (Group 1)
In the engine bay we have already started to lay out the plumbing and the extinguisher system is all complete. A new bias adjustable pedal box has also been fitted with Wilwood cylinders. The wiring loom is going to need a lot of modification so that is one of the next things on the list to get ...

Re: 1974 Spa 24 Hours - Butch Racing Dolomite Sprint (Group 1)
Engine:
This has just arrived back from Rob at Sprintspeed, making a healthy 211bhp and 173ft/lb torque, although this would be slightly higher bhp if we went a size up on the carbs. The subframe has been powder coated an once the other engine mounts have returned from coating the engine can be ...

The shell:
So this has had quite a bit of work including putting the suspension pickups back in their original positions, repairing some old accident damage and fitting a full custom weld in cage. It was then seam welded, dipped and repainted in its original Mimosa Yellow.

Re: 1974 Spa 24 Hours - Butch Racing Dolomite Sprint (Group 1)
Sorry for the lack of updates. The car has been progressing slowly due to a busy summer of racing, but now winter has started fast progress will be made. I will start writing a progress report now and get some up to date photos

Re: 1974 Spa 24 Hours - Butch Racing Dolomite Sprint (Group 1)
Another little update, the car is now stripped ready for the roll cage and blasting. All I have left to do tomorrow is build a wheeled dolly for it and remove the stickers. Thankfully there was no rust to be found in the body, however a few bad repairs that will need sorting and no doubt more hiding ...
