Re: Dolomite Quartz clock

I just noticed this on eBay:

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/144578014842

It seems it is in Australia. There is no indication of size and it does not have the black on the rim.

Also these:

Re: Brooklands green codes

In this case, the car was stripped and repainted in the 1980s because the original paint was not coping with the Australian sun very well. So the outside paint may not be the original anyway. But then the outside paint has now had 30+ years of exposure and has probably faded a bit in places. The ...

Re: Brooklands green codes

I am looking to match French Blue (126). Is there some specification that could be used to make this up, or is colour matching the best approach?

Dolly Story

I have just sold my Dolomite after 46 years. I wrote this story as a memento to post on Facebook. Maybe others will have had similar relationships with their cars.
--------------------
Back in 1976, I was driving a Morris 1100 around. It had had a messy crash and because it was an old car, it had ...

Re: Non-Triumph repairer to replace clutch

if you are removing the gearbox yourself to get it fixed (whats the fault with the gearbox?) then the repairer won't even see the clutch.

Described elsewhere here. It seems there may be a problem with the layshaft.
Assess the clutch condition yourself by visual inspection, its quick and easy ...

Re: Rattly noise that started today

The engine mounts are near the front of the engine. If the gearbox and bell housing are removed, does the back of the engine need to be supported while the gearbox is being repaired? Or does it rest on the subframe ok?

Repairers who will take the gearbox out for me do not want the car sitting there ...

Re: Non-Triumph repairer to replace clutch

Thanks for the useful advice. I cannot be sure of the kilometres the car has done. The odometer currently shows 70,000, but I am not sure whether it has been around once or twice. I drove it every day for 15 years when I first got it so may have covered some distance. I will have to go back through ...

Re: Non-Triumph repairer to replace clutch

That is a general idea of workshops selling you an extra clutch change. Like changing waterpumps and tensioners also at Japanese cars when changing the cambelt.
The challenge is to get an honest repairer who will tell you the clutch's state. I have had problems with cheap clutches in the past ...

Non-Triumph repairer to replace clutch

I am going to have to remove the gearbox to get it fixed. It seems generally accepted that you replace the clutch whenever the gearbox is out. Good idea?

Are there any tips for a successful clutch change?

Re: Rattly noise that started today

I can't watch your dropbox videos cos I don't have an account. But from the written description of the sound effects and their variations i'm willing to make a guess, which is that you have chipped a tooth on the laygear cluster probably the gear that is driven by the input shaft, at the very ...

Re: Rattly noise that started today

There is a Dolomite gearbox on gumtree for $40.

https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/miners-rest/engine-engine-parts-transmission/triumph-dolomite-gearbox/1293480824
Unfortunately, it is the earlier kind. Not sure if it would work. :-(

I would have to find a gear lever too.

But thanks for the ...

Re: Rattly noise that started today

Yes, that is the problem with repair, isn't it. You have to remove the gearbox and dismantle it to find that it is too damaged to repair. :-(

As for shipping a gearbox to Australia, yes, I can imagine it would be expensive. It is a trade-off between how fast you want it vs the cost of shipping ...

Re: Rattly noise that started today

:(
I did wonder. Just puzzled how it came on so suddenly. I would have thought it would get noisy gradually.

Ok, so what are the options? Is it repairable? Or would I be better to try to get an exchange gearbox?

It has a single rail gearbox.

Rimmers have some but do not ship them to Australia. :(
