Re: new member mx5 1.6 conversion.
Today I went to the car and looked at the rear quarter panel and I wasn't happy with how the repair looked. So I cut along the original weld and repaired it so the panel now looks like the proper shape and won't take much to finish off before final paint.

Re: new member mx5 1.6 conversion.
Got the boot emptied and stripped out on the doner car. Also cut a repair section out of the top of the rear wing to repair the rust on the other body. There was a puddle of petrol under the car aswell so inspected fuel tank and its seen better days!

Re: new member mx5 1.6 conversion.
More nice work Phil. I've passed your feedback regarding the rear wing panel on to the fabricator; he's been making these for us for a good number of years without reported problems so he's going to check his patterns... Hi the hole for the bumper mount was too high and the panel was too long. Didn...

The rear quarter panel is done. Had to move the bumper mounting hole and trim the ends to get it to fit.

Re: new member mx5 1.6 conversion.
Got the wheel arch repair back on today. Should only need a little skim of filler to tidy up. Has anyone got any pics of the brackets for the roll over jig so I have an idea of where to start. Bolted it to the rear bumper mounts but rear panel started flexing so gave up trying to get it on the spit.

Re: new member mx5 1.6 conversion.
Today I moved into my permanent storage space. Not as spacious as a barn but still plenty of room. Built some temporary racking until I decide how I'm going to make it permanent and fit a bench aswell. Just need to sort out ventilation so the container doesn't sweat and some lighting. Also acquired ...

Re: new member mx5 1.6 conversion.
Tackled the bad wheel arch repair. Easiest way was to cut it out and start again. Found another bad repair on the inner wheel arch aswell. Wheel arch is clamped and ready to weld back on properly.

Re: new member mx5 1.6 conversion.
So after a couple of hours work the passanger side cill finished off! All welded, seam sealer then primered and top coat just to seal the primer. Will just need a skim of filler in places to finish off properly. A bit of an improvement from when I started!

Re: new member mx5 1.6 conversion.
Today my plan was to finish the cill. Got rear end of cill finished off and whilst finishing the front off I ran out of mig wire so decided to start preparing the next part. Got the rear lower wing cut out and found an old wheel arch repair which looks like I was held together with fillet as it just...

Got the bottom of the cill welded and tided up. Tided up the weld along the top aswell. Just need to cap off both ends to complete this side. Then on to the next bit to do!
