Re: Colonials visiting Blighty. Seeking your advice.

I have been to every Revival since the first, and would not miss it for the world.

It is one of those things that the maxim, "expensive but worth it" genuinely applies to. The cost does not stop at the tickets, as once inside the circuit, everything is expensive as well (this years highlight being ...

Re: Triumph Dolomite Club International Rally 2018

Regrettably, the clash with the Goodwood Revival (for which tickets had to be booked and paid for several months ago) meant I could not attend this year - the first I have missed for a while.

The weather was certainly a huge improvement in last year, where the first thing I had to do was go into ...

Re: Balancing and Machining Recommendation

Thanks to everybody who replied.

I ended up going with MED. We hit an immediate snag in that they did not possess any 1098cc cranks to spin the assembly up on (the 1098 in line crank is unique and very different from the 1275).

This meant dropping my crank out of the engine

Still, work is ...

Re: Fuel vapourisation remedies

Matt,

Another vote here for the Spitfire heat shield as mentioned by Steve. Incidentally, the rather bling highly polished ones sold by certain sellers on ebay are actually nowhere near as effective as the original BL type, which has a sort of (I assume) asbestos sandwich material on the side ...

Balancing and Machining Recommendation

A brief outline of the issue (this is NOT anything to do with a Dolomite).

I have a very nice race/rally A series prepared by Swift Tune, who are acknowledged leaders in this area (and charge proportionately). I inherited the engine with the car, but it was only built up about 1,200 miles ago.

I ...

Re: Clutch judder after moterway drive, goes away with use

Graham

When we had the clutch off there was no sign at all of oil contamination on it or the flywheel surface. So we didn't change it.

When we removed the flywheel and changed it for another, we changed the rear oil seal for good measure as it was exposed. It did not appear to be leaking.

I ...

Re: Clutch judder after moterway drive, goes away with use

Graham

I had exactly this problem with a VW Polo some years ago. After having the gearbox out four times, changing every single clutch component (twice) and then trying another known (excellent) gearbox, all to no avail; I changed the flywheel in desperation.

End of problem.

I have no idea if ...

Re: Not a Dolomite

A wonderful vehicle Mark - I love it. The look, the colour, everything.

Contrary to popular belief, the heaters can be made to work very effectively, but it is a painting the Forth Bridge job to keep them that way.

A really lovely vehicle. well done for getting it and good luck with it.

Re: Nissan Qashqai as a family run-about ?

Excellent all round family vehicles. Not for nothing did they become such a big seller that cars like the Primera, Laguna and frankly Vectra all got killed off.

Practical, quite roomy for their footprint, and with a commanding driving position they are an attractive choice. Control weights are ...

Alan,

I have no experience of that company but I did deal with another firm on behalf fob a friend over fitting power steering to an Aston Martin

Re: Diamond cutting wheels

Mark,

When I had the wheels for the Redtop Toledo diamond cut and polished the work was done by a firm that Mike Barker put me in contact with. They were actually based down here near me, but had a reciprocal arrangement with a company up your way, which is how Mike had come to use them. The work ...

Re: Warming up a Toledo 1300

The "best" combination of valve sizes for tuning is the Spit Mk 3 head. This is the same as the FWD 1300TC unit and both are rare now.

The later Spit Mk 4 1300 head is notably inferior (emissions control came into play) and the various 1500 heads are also not as good as the Spit 3. If you can find ...

Re: Triumph Dolomite Club International Rally 2017

I would like to add my thanks to all those who made the effort to come to Hatton, with or without Dolomite shaped cars.

The conditions varied from less-than-ideal to thoroughly unpleasant but for those who made the trip it was a most enjoyable day. I wasn't the only person taking advantage of the ...
