Re: Sprint pistons ?

I have a set of these. They are genuine original Leyland ST pistons (STR0254) made by Cosworth, complete with a set of rings (STN0097) still in the original packaging and never opened. They are for a standard bore.

pm me if interested

Re: Sprint head skim/block deck and CR

The following are the minimum head thicknesses I have, measured from the base of a cam journal (located by a ball bearing) to the head face :- Dolomite/TR7/Stag - 4.427" Sprint - 4.745" These are from hand annotations made to the Service Training Notes by a chap I used to know who attended...

You're welcome Steve, and it was good to see you both again after so long. Glad you managed to enjoy the rest of your holiday and get home safely.

Re: rover 75

Interesting comments about the KV6. I've heard good and bad. Certainly the ones fitted to the M-Sport Freelanders were described (along with the rest of the car) as 'indestructible'. Perhaps the usual British case of excellent design ruined by crap fabrication. Now, what does that remind me of ........

Re: What fuel is best

In my experience the benefits of using super unleaded rather than ordinary were so small as to be not worth the effort of retuning the car (tried it with my old standard Sprint which was my daily driver at the time). There certainly wasn't any cost saving worth getting excited about. Having a car se...

Re: What fuel is best

It'll probably run OK on 95 but 98-99 is better. There's no probably about it Mark, I've never run my Sprint on anything but ordinary unleaded (except a bit of super as a means of avoiding E10 on the continent) and it runs absolutely fine, regularly returning over 35mpg average. I'd say go for ordi...

Re: carb needles

I can set up the carbs and then a week later they need doing again. Someone suggested it won't hurt trying new needles. Hmm, something wrong there. Once you get twin SU's set up correctly they should be fine for a good long while. I give mine a quick check on average once a year (or less depending ...

BBT's work well with that set up. BDQ's might wring a little more mpg out of it without costing much performance.

Re: Low oil pressure on start up.

If it's started doing it relatively quickly it might be just the oil filter draining overnight. Try fitting a new one and see if it does the trick. It's always worth removing and cleaning the oil pressure switch too.

Buy the hex shaft from a Capri 3-litre. These are the same length but the ends have been hardened.
