Mig welder

I have decided to buy my own welder and to give it a go after some practice. Have thought that one with a range of 30 to 130 Amp would be sufficient for my needs, have looked around and machine mart do a good range as well as SIP brand. Looking for views and experiences of other forum users for ...

Re: overdrive?

Had this same problem on my 1500hl two years ago after converting to overdrive from non od and I can confirm it is the one way roller clutch, when I took mine out after stripping the unit the rollers were quite badly grooved and that I think is why it slips, after replacing it I have had no problem ...

Re: Spitfire type and other alternative wheels

I need clarification on the offset figure if possible, I know spit wheels will fit and se wheels are similar with a different offset but I don't want to buy them if the offset figure means they wont fit, as the figure is a lot different to the standard wheel so that is what I need information on if ...

Spitfire type and other alternative wheels

I have seen on Ebay today 2 lots of alternative wheels that fit Spitfire and Herald, GT6 etc both are 5.5j x 13, one set a weller wheel style steel wheel, e bay number 351065711697, and the other are listed as Spitfire/Formula ford, ebay listing number 181409126405, 5.5jx13x16 which I assume is the ...

Re: Tilly's Top End

I too have fitted a external feed kit to my 1500 and found that it used more oil than before, also I have a oil pressure gauge fitted and have found that before I fitted the oil feed pipe the oil pressure was better by 10-20 psi so I suppose if you have marginal oil pressure due to wear/age etc then ...

MOT Pass

Took my 1500HL for its mot today and got a pass after a bit of a tweak of carb mixture nuts as it was running at 5.2% so all good really, pleased it passed with nothing major but yet again got an advisory for the n/s chassis leg having a slight dent in it due no doubt to the car being jacked up on ...

Re: DECISIONS,DECISIONS

I realise it will cost a bit have worked it out roughly tonight as it would be between 3-400 pounds to get the work done so yes it would be better to buy a car that was already roadworthy for 1600 and i daresay reasonable condition too. The 1500 i looked at did not have overdrive either so that ...

Re: DECISIONS,DECISIONS

So it seems the opinion is it is not worth buying even thought it has a very good body I know that there are values to go by and each car is looked at on its own merit so I suppose that it is a bit top heavy at £1200 for a non runner so I will have to speak the seller and see if we can come to an ...

DECISIONS,DECISIONS

I have viewed a 1500hl earlier this week that is for sale, it is a 1980 example and has done 40000 miles, it is in Paegent Blue with a Beige interior which is in very good condition. The body condition is very good, all the usual Dolomite rot spots are ok, the inner front panel and eyebrow is very ...

Re: Oh no, not FRENCH!!!!

I had a ZX TD Volcane that was powered by the good old XUD engine and it went like stink and pretty rare now too, had a Pug 309 diesel turbo but no intercooler previous to that both good cars, did over 135000 in the ZX which I had for 7 years, the 309 for 5 years no probs with the electrics although ...

Re: clutch slave cylinder bleeding tips?

The way I have done mine in the past is to use a gunsons easiblled that uses pressure off the spare tyre to push the fluid through and at the same time pump the pedal a few times as I have found that air can get trapped in the m/cyl which needs removal by pumping the pedal as well. If you can get ...

REAR C PILLAR VINYL TRIM

I would like to replace the vinyl trim on my 1500hl as it is coming unstuck at the top of the pillar and also starting to split at the bottom where the trim strip is, I would like to take it off ideally and replace it with new vinyl although the original appears more plastic than vinyl. I have ...
