In NL and other countries maybe also from July 1 1967 all cars had to have a tandem system. Otherwise no type approval.

Re: Strange cable out nowhere

On a RHD car, that wire to the PDWA switch would be black. But a RHD 1850 of that year would only be single circuit brakes, not dual, so no PDWA at all.

But it certainly LOOKS like a PDWA plug, Many early LHD cars had dual circuit brakes, complete with PDWA and who knows how they made the LHD ...

Re: Sprint Cam Timing

A streched chain will retard the cam timing, same as a head skim. At a certain crankshaft degrees the camshaft hasn't reached the desired lift yet because of running 'behind' of the cranckshaft. At the moment the crankpully passes it's timingmark, the camshaft hasn't reached it's mark yet because of ...

Re: Sprint Cam Timing

I did hear that cam timing can be out from the factory, measured TDC when I stripped the engine and it was 2 degrees out (now at the machine shop) Not yet decided whether to fit a Newman PH1 or keep the standard cam, have a vernier pulley but the workshop manual giving different values for the ...

Re: Sprint Cam Timing

Maybe one is measured at the camshaft and is purely camshaft data and the value in the manual is in real life. Normally at Triumph engines you have the valveplay within the timing/duration. Valveplay does have the duration a bit shorter as the lift starts later en closing is earlier because of the ...

Re: Best spark plugs for dolomite sprint

Add an R. BPR6EFS for example. Around 5 Kohm is needed in an HT System. Some resistor sparkplugs are 1 Kohm. When you have carbon type plugleads then you are probably already over 5 Kohm and resistor type plugs are not recommended then. Measure your leads first and then decide what plug is needed ...

Re: Fitting an overdrive to a 1500 Dolomite

Just fitted an overdrive to an 1300 a few months ago. I did use the std mount for the gearbox fitted at the rear of the subframe, not using the additional bracket and mounts to fit it at the shell and that goes fine. The original propshaft has still 2-3cm play.

Re: Sprint engine onto 1850 subframe

It doesn't feel right to use these. I think you will have a lot of vibration and does the Jaguar engine has 4 of these on an engine?

The angle of the Sprint engine is different as the 1850 so make sure it's correctly otherwise the gearbox won't fit properly and the exhaust won't fit.

When you have ...

Re: Sprint head on 1850

You misunderstand me! I fully appreciate the point of using a sleeved/bored 1850 block or a TR7 block to replace all the Sprint engines that been blown up, cracked, or bored to their limit. Or simply to compensate for the shortage of oversize Sprint pistons.

What I couldn't understand is why ...

Re: Which coil do I need

With most electronic ignition sets I have come across you need a full 12v supply, cutting the ballast resistor out of circuit. For a 12v coil you need one that measures about 3 ohm across the connectors with all leads disconnected. A coil for ballasted ignition measures about 1.5 ohm.

And with ...

Re: Sprint / TR7 Pistons

Better set the timing with the headgasket. The distance between the sprockets will be different with or without the gasket and so the timing.

Good point, I will do.
I am wondering if I will need to open the angled head stud holes up a little too. I reckon that the holes will have ...

some further words against 123 (sorry guys):

Re: Sprint / TR7 Pistons

TR7 pistons are dished so will lower compression. The dish is about 1mm/40 thou.
The valve cutouts are in a different place too.

I believe some places use TR7 pistons for sprint rebuilds, and with a std cam valves should not touch pistons.
If a head has been heavily skimmed, TR7 pistons will ...

You can fit a vacuum and a black dizzy cap to an 123 just for the looks....

An 123 is not your average conversion as Steve already mentioned. These programmable have also dual curves and ideally for my LPG conversions. One curve for LPG and one for petrol to have it not pinking.

It switches ...
