Re: 1850 rear brake problem

Hi Steve.

I am glad you have sorted the problem and that you have up dated us.

I only know my way around 1500 Dolomites because we purchased our first one in 1977 and the family has driven the seven 1500 Dolomites we have owned over the years at least 546,000miles.

I currently have four.

Re: 1850 rear brake problem

I did find when I replaced the handbrake cables on one of my cars that the cables were too long and I had to reduce the length of the adjustment thread because the end was hitting the clevis pin.

If you do not remove all the slack from the cables the handbrake will come up too far (too many clicks ...

Re: 1850 rear brake problem

There are no clips to hold them in and if fitted correctly I cant see how they can come out. Please take another look at the following photo

Re: O/D rear cross member (218519)

It seem as if I did manage to attach my article about fitting an O/D to a 1500 dolomite as I have now clinked on the details in my previous post and on doing that my computer downloaded the details.
Other people have told me they have found it useful.

Re: 1500 dolomite discs & Drums

All Dolomites use the same disc part number 312078 but the official parts catalogue does give different pads for the various models, but now it is a matter of fitting what you can obtain.

Chris Witor did state that he was getting new discs manufactured several month ago but I do not know if they ...

Re: 1850 rear brake problem

If you struggle to get the brake drums off you may find when you do get them off the the brake shoes have worn the drums away leaving a raised edge on the inside of the drums. If this is the case you need to grind the lip away so that it will be easier to get the brake drums on and off in future. It ...

Re: Carb/fuel pump woes.

I have found that it is easy to slice a bit off the inside of the rubber hose that is used to connect the carbs when you refit them. It then travels along the pipework and can cause the needle valves not to seal correctly and you end up having to take the needle valve seats out to clear the bits out ...

Re: Wanted, Choke Cable

There are two type of choke cables one has a solid wire and the other has a stranded wire and I believe they have a different arrangements to lock the choke out when it is required. The solid wire type just relies on friction between the wire and the outer case to keep it out and the stranded wire ...

Re: Gearbox layshaft thrust springs???

I wish I could give a definitive answer but I can’t. The springs are shown in the Official Triumph Dolomite range 1971 onwards parts catalogue but I can’t find any info about fitting them in the official workshop manual.

Similarly they are shown in an exploded view of a gearbox in the 1500 Dolomite ...
