Re: Electric Motor

Possibly and very doubtful !

I would assume it is a single phase induction motor of some sort -the bulge on the top I assume to be the Start Capacitor. You need to examine the wires that come from the motor and how the capacitor is connected. Also is the capacitor just a "start capacitor" or a ...

Re: Exhaust

I got a "standard replica system" from Robsport. It all fitted quite nicely apart from the downpipe which needed tweeking. Had to bend it slightly tighter and tweek it to the side to line up properly with the first silencer/box. Easy enough in situ with the oxy/acetylene torch - a lot harder without!

Re: Electric Motor

If you mount the motor on a pivot with little tension on the belt in it's resting state you can then turn the motor on and the pulley will slip on the belt, you can then pull on the lever to tension the belt a little and use it as a sort of clutch to "feed" in the power. If you want to "fix" the ...

Re: Electric Motor

Unless it is a really old style washing machine then a washing machine motor would l be a nightmare to wire up. They usually have multiple windings so they can run at the different speeds required. Some have variable frequency drives to alter the speed.

A "normal" AC motor such as the ones on "home ...

Re: Sprint Oil Sump Removal

Trouble is for me, every time I fix an oil leak another one starts elsewhere! I think I need to look at the cam cover breather to check there is adequate ventilation.

Good luck, enjoy the tinkering. :D

Definitely worth checking the gauze in the cam cover. I recently bought another cover to ...

Thanks Steve, shan't bother sourcing a spark guard then.

Re: Sprint Distributor Cap - Which One?

Thanks Matt and Jeroen - you pretty much just confirmed my suspicions and thoughts. I will keep an eye out for a new old stockGDC134 or maybe a new old stock Ambassador one - GDC142.

Another problem is there is a N.O.S. Unipart GDC134 on ebay at the moment. The box says GDC134 BUT the picture of ...

Sprint Distributor Cap - Which One?

Went for a drive today and the car had a chronic misfire across the rev range and across a range of throttle openings - tacho was fine all the time so assumed problem was on the HT side.

I took the distributor cap off and was dismayed to find a nice film of silver metal dust on the inside and all ...

I've come up with a design to stop the flywheel turning when trying to torque the flywheel bolts...

It works very well even without a nut to hold it in place.

Nice, gets my vote for idea ...

Re: Flasher units

Does it make an audible ticking noise or is it silent?? I do like / need the "mechanical" ticking to remind me I have left the indicator on !!

What! Doesn't your self-cancelling work? To be serious, no my unit doesn't click but as the cancelling works I have never found it an issue.

Re: Flasher units

I have one of these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/152070987425 in my Dolly and it works really well, and, as Steve says, it gives a constant flash rate all the time, even when idling with headlights and wipers on. It doesn't fit the holder so it just dangles on the wires behind the dash, but it is so ...

Re: 1500HL Fuel pump ejecting petrol through small hole

Permeation levels and pressure. R9 has much lower levels of fuel permeation - 15 vs 600ppm and is rated for high pressure fuel injection systems.

As your car, and all unmodified Toledos and Dolomites, have low pressure carburettor fuel systems R6 is OK but R9 is better. The general recommendation ...

Re: Sprint Head Gasket question.

Thanks Alun. I have just looked at the head again and think I agree with you and not skim any more. It is flat and unmarked so not really needed.

Will look out for good quality standard gasket. Thanks for the heads up on potential issues with Payen gaskets, I have come across issues with other "new ...

Sprint Head Gasket question.

I am in the process of rebuilding a cylinder head for my Sprint. I have what I think is a good head to replace my existing one. The existing one has a lot of slop in the cam bucket bores which make a bit of a noise!

It has been skimmed in the past and is sitting right at the minimum thickness of 4 ...
