If you mean one of the five bearing caps, which one, as they are different?

Your problem is exacerbated by the fact they are line bored to receive the cam shaft and as such matched to the head. However, I had a similar problem in the late 80's and I managed to source one that was a perfect match to my head. I did test fit it in isolation and without the cam in place prior to replacing it on the rocker shaft, to check that there was no physical step where the bearing cap and head meet (if there is then using that bearing cap will lock the camshaft solid.

I do have a couple of rocker assemblies and some random bearing caps too, but first we need to establish which one? Number them 1-5 from the timing chain end backwards...

Well, I’ve found a No5 bearing cap, but in all honesty you’re better off getting that repaired as the important bit is intact. Mine burst in a very similar place but on No1, but back then TIG welding was an expensive specialist operation and I was on a student grant!

Your choice; this is the one I have:

I have seen on the forum that it can be changed if you take the cam out and check for a "Step" so i will try this method with yours

If not i guess its a new head

I've sent you a PM.

The 'step' is any step whatsoever; if you can feel it with your finger nail, it may be enough to 'lock' the cam shaft. Think along the lines of a scratch in paintwork can't be polished out if you can feel it with your fingernail!

Some advocate decking the set of caps and getting them re line bored whilst fitted to the head to ensure linearity of the bearings in such circumstances, but I wouldn't want to guess the costs of that.
