Hmm.... I'll look them up. Do they look a bit like 80's Rx7 mags? four spoke in black or charcoal?

Okay guys time for another update!

I have had my good friend Craig up at Newport Motors cut out the boot floor and parcel shelf from an old 1850 with a dead engine, and whilst I was there I also managed to get a replacement carburretor float and the left hand tail light assembly I needed. Furthermore, I have ordered the curved arm peep mirrors so they should be in on wednesday with a bit of luck, and I have also sourced indicator globes in both regular and amber colour for the Euro conversion I'm doing.

Other than the obvious, I also picked up a bottle of Wynns radiator flush, and a sunvisor - mounted sunglasses holder and a drink holder to boot, so so far all is going well. All that is left is to upgrade the battery terminals, positive having a multi-connector for stereo applications, and the neg will be a bone stock new part. I have also had Craig put asside a replacement Tailshaft centre rubber for a cost of $180.00 aus, steep I know but according to the roadworthy testers it's pretty knackered, considerring, and I quote "you can see through it".

On the Audio side of things I have begun to wir up my hidden amplifier rack and it's looking quite promising. I have also got the Alpine Type S subwoofer waiting asside for a bit of action, and have been quoted on some component speakers with carbon fibre cones at $350.00 but I'm not very familiar with the brand... so some research is in order.

I'm very confident that with a good solid push i can have the car on the road before Christmas! Woohoo! Wish me luck!

Is the "tailshaft centre rubber" the rear mount on the gearbox? If so, and you don't want to spend so much money on an old part (obsolete since the late '80s, last one on eBay UK sold for a ridiculous amount of £GB), then HERE is a far cheaper alternative that works. It's about ¾" deeper than the original, but as the through bolt is longer than it need be, this mount will fit. Trust me, my auto has one on it and it's fine. I'm thinking that even allowing for shipping to Aus, it'll still be a whole lot cheaper than the one you've been quoted for.

Tailshaft is Australian for propshaft.

That tip about the subframe mounting is interesting, Tinweevil was looking for a mount for his wife's 1500TC auto a while back. Wins International had suggested trying the Stag mount but I don't remember if Tin actually tried it.
You don't happen to know the difference between a T2000 o/d gearbox mount and a Dolomite 1850 three rail o/d box mount, John? Or more crucially, can a 2000 one be fitted to a Dolomite?

Ah! I really ought to learn Australian some day.

I measured the mount at a Newcastle-based Triumph specialist's parts counter to satisfy myself that it would be suitable, then, rather than spend more than £70 on their part, I ordered one from the Stag parts people in the link above. The extra length doesn't affect its suitability in any way that I've been able to determine during the 11,000 miles since I opted to fit it, I had thought that it could be a bit too stiff since the elastic component is longer which could have restricted its flexibility, but there are no odd vibrations from the transmission with one of those in there so it's all good. :)

Sorry Ian, cannot help there as I've not had cause to investigate those particular items, but where bushes and Metalastic/Metaxentric mounts are concerned there's nearly always a cheaper and more readily available alternative from another automotive or industrial application, example; Reliant Rebel gearbox rear mount. Extinct from Reliant Partsworld but alive and well from an *Edinburgh-based supplier of machine feet and commercial rubber bushes.*

I would be very surprised if a compatible part for your intended use were unavailable from the BL parts bin of the period, most things popped up in a variety of their cars across the marques that came under the corporate umbrella.

* I'm blowed if I can find the company website for that supplier now, but I'm certain that I came across them by searching Google for "Metalastic bushes."

Thanks John.

The current alternative o/d gearbox mounts are cheap but far too hard making for unwelcome vibration (there have been posts on this very forum relaying experiences of fitting said cheap bushes). It is possible to buy OE T2000 mounts..........I am sure I could persuade one of these to do its work on a Dolomite with a little adjustment to the cross member :) .

Thanks for the replies guys, but honestly I don't mind spending whatever money it takes to get this car in tip-top condition. Plus I uhh... kinda already ordered the parts :?

Oh well, she's coming together quite well, the only issue atm is the cost of bloody seat belts! the original ones that came with the car won't pass RWC as they jam when retracting, and haven't improved even after I tried to repair them. I'm looking at $210.00 the pair, but might try talking them down to $190.00 if I'm lucky.

Otherwise I've nutted out a few other odds and ends, like a cold air intake I'm building up out of sheet aluminium. It's going to be a tad larger than you'd normally see, but induction should be amazing. Next to figure out is the rear view mirror.... I cannot get one in good nick at all in adelaide, and I'm got paying 200 for a nos one from melbourne, as this is just ridiculous.

If anyone has a spare lying around, please PM me!!

I have a mirror for you aaron. Either pick up or pm your address and I'll post it. It isn't in brilliant condition and would benefit from a new mirror glass, the roof attachment point is slightly split, but it works.

and have you thought about transfering the rego to SA ? No roadworthy, ever, but you'd need to have a valid SA address and if you were in a rural SA location, only an ID check is needed for the vehicle.
