They will flash slower if on without the engine running. Make sure the engine is running and they should flash a bit quicker. Either that or the flasher unit is a bit tired....... I know nothing, so take no notice

Good luck for the MOT!

MOT passed today. Got a couple of minor advisories that have already been attended to.

There was a bad earth on offside front sidelight/indicator unit. Taken apart and cleaned and all appears well.

Both rear wheel bearings were noisy. Adjusted for now but I have ordered some new ones anyway.

Still got some bits to do though.....

Parcel shelf needs refitting. Could do with a better one but will reuse the one I have for now.

Fit Radio. Maybe a more modern one hidden away and original style one in normal place. May just put modern one in as it can be easily swapped later.

Get wheels painted.

Polish paintwork and then decide whether to repaint the car. Unlikely to do respray as I quite like the used look.

Will be taxed on Thursday and then used over the weekend as long as the weather isn't too bad.

I'm struggling to see how you "adjust" a ball bearing...
The fronts are tapered and yes they do adjust, but the backs...hmmm...

Think you just made it harder to get the hubs off...

Jon,

I have never professed to having any mechanical knowledge
so couldn't comment on the adjustment of bearings. Will confirm
with garage exactly what was done. Only thing I do know
is that they were a lot quieter on the way home than on
the way to test.

Been a long time since updated but over the last few weeks we have been trying to get the car ready for Lewis as his driving test is imminent.

Some of the bits that needed doing were

Carbs setting up properly

Overdrive box fitting

Adjusting R*mmers SS exhaust to fit

Refitting Interior

General tidy up of the paintwork.

Anyway, here is a few pics taken since the last update.

The twin carbs that have been on the SE since I got it are in need of a rebuild, so on recommendation I am going to use the single carb set up from the 1300.

Depending on how the car runs will decide how soon I get the twin carbs rebuilt and back on the car. I will be tempted to leave single carb set up on if it seems ok, but for originality I'm sure the twin carbs will end up back on there at some point. Obviously having the complete donor car was handy as it meant I have everything needed including exhaust front section.

Should have O/D box in place and carb swapped before the end of next week. Will update as and when.

Let me stop you right there...

The single carb manifold will NOT fit with the 4-2-1 exhaust that you will have on the SE. You would need the whole exhaust setup from the 1300...
I tried this myself only 3 months ago when our 1300 had a broken downpipe flange. As I had a new 1500 zorst from the manifold back I stuck it all on. I then fitted the single carb and found it wouldnt start. After some head scracthing I realised it was sucking air on the manifold to head joint. I then relaised that the single carb manifold was fouliing on the centre exhaust outlet. This annoyed me because the Spitfire 1500 works with the single carb but then I realised that said spit (TSSC article written by Jon Thomason) had the special 4-2-1 Triumptune exhaust that does away with the flange gasket but that wont fit dolomites. Grrrrr....

So I put on twin carbs...

The moral of this is...recon your carbs. Unless the spindles need rebushing its a doddle and it will work.

Jon,

I do have everything I need from the 1300 if that's the way I decide to go.

I have a few days to sort twin carbs so will try and find somone to rebuild them for me. Thanks for the advice.

that isn't my garden but belongs to a very good friend who is used to me turning up at all hours with anything that would be easier done on the ramp. Luckily his better half is very understanding.

You may well have the whole setup from the 1300 but do you really want to fit a smaller exhaust to a 1500... the whole 9 yards!
You could also look at relieiving the underneath of the single manifold so that it fits properly. I have a spare one in case you go through it
with the grinder. It cant need too much taken off...

Due to a problem with the original engine during the first drive with overdrive gearbox. This was about six weeks ago but other things have been happening so it has had to wait until now to be sorted.

Anyway on Friday the 1500 was removed and will be stripped down in due course to find the cause of the problem.

Today the 1300 from the donor car was reunited with its gearbox after clutch and flywheel had been swapped over. So for now I have a 1300SE with overdrive until such time that the 1500 is repaired or replaced.

Took it out for a 10 mile drive and all was good. Just need to refit parcel shelf and couple of bits of sill carpet.

At least it means Lewis can use it to tag along to a couple of events this year in it.

Pictures to follow when I can find the camera lead.....
(Don't suppose anyone on here took it from the desk in my office? Obviously it wasn't any of my kids. But I bet it reappears when I go downstairs)
