Post subject: Russett Brown Sprint OGK
PostPosted: Sun Mar 21, 2010 10:02 pm
Thought I'd start this topic to chart progress of my Russett Sprint though it's more a mini refurb than a full on resto.

As it looked when I got it home. Not too bad really, but me being me had to start prodding and poking.

Have copied over the links I first posted on Reg's Inca topic so as not to hijack it.

All the bulkhead rot eradicated. New metal in the chassis under the battery. New rear vent panel. All 4 jacking points & both inner sill strengtheners all rebuilt. Front closing ends of sills rebuilt. Outer sills replaced.

Have also replaced all 4 doors for better items, and replaced bootlid and bonnet.

Now masked up ready for isolator, primer and then fresh new Russett. can't wait.

Nice work. That rear vent was the nastiest I've seen for a long time. Wow.

Loking forward to seeing it in new paint

I too had lost some of the top edge and lip, you can just see it in the earlier picture, but grafted in fresh metal from the donor panel which included about 300mm of the roof as well.

Be nice to see it back on the road.

Russett Brown anyone?

When you offered to buy OGK I was already talking to Reg about how you would be a good person to take that job on.

I'm surprised you changed all the doors. I had aerosoled a couple of them but the drivers side front was a good one, having come from a rust free 1300 that just happned to be ....russet.... It was a right pain changing over the window glass!

Any more on the rear crank oil seal? That was its 3rd one last year!

It had a crease on the front edge where it meets the wing and rather than faff about I had another Russett as well. Just quicker Jon

Turns out the seal was fine. Looks like the oil pump is dripping after all that. Had to remove the engine anyway for access to bulkhead. Now need to remove the oil pump to find out whats wrong there. Hey ho.

A coat of isolator and primer now on. Colour coats next. Vent panel a bit more visible now it's in grey.

Flippin eck, you don't hang around do you........

Not had it parked on your drive long enough for the oil to cool down and it is in bits, a frenzy of angle grinder and mig activity, next thing you know it's filled, prepped, primered ready for paint.

Hats off to you, respect.

No good anyone dropping a car off to you for some 'free long term storage' whilst it undergoes a few cosmetic enhancements, gonna call you Quick Refit

Thanks Malc, I hadn't really intended to do anything to it but drive it, but you know how it is.

On the subject of finishing off, I need a set of those nice new silver coachlines you have in stock.

PM on it's way.

Looking forward to seeing the finished article. Whilst Russett is not at the top of my favourite colour list (don't dislike it, just down the pecking order), a colour change is a big task and needs doing really well or you end up with a 'Brooklands over Magenta' like Marts, difficult to hide, so nice to keep it original. Magenta would not have looked right on a V plate IMHO.

Carmine, French, Inca, Russett..........Tahiti next please, Tahiti with Black interior, TVC916R, what happened to you ?
