So, for those of you with side exit exhausts, one question, Why?
I ask that genuinely, not trying to be clever, as I am pondering it myself, purely to reduce the length of the system, and therefore it's weight, based on going down to one box. Other than that, I can't see any advantage??

Side exits give you an amount of exhaust which meets a legal requirement without trying to find 2 over the axle pipes....thats useful on a v8!

cheers people - liking the pics 8)
4 reasons for me going to side exits;

1. exhaust is just awful that's on there at the moment, runs down the centre about 10mm away from the prop so knocks going over bumps, and has a stupid boy racer backbox
2. i can fit 2 cherry bomb silencers up near the downpipe to give it a little back pressure and make the tone lower
3. when i fit the straight arb it'll be hard getting over it and the rear axle
4. it's the way of the 70's lol - slash cut side pipes were everywhere 'back-in-the-day'

Ah, ha, Now I see. Apologies, sometimes I am stoopid  Now I know they were a popular 70's mod, makes it seem easier to justify going to side exit exhaust on authenticity grounds
So, Cherry Bomb silencers, are they likely to improve performance over an aftermarket SS Silencer then?
Like the idea of a deeper sound to the exhaust too 8)

Indeed; but, it may impede your getting the car out on track should you be so inclined. The 'noise police' are getting ever more stringent on this at certain tracks; with 100dB or less being the limit :(

i have a db meter at work (somewhere).
if it's still too loud i'll make a bolt in baffle to keep the noise down.

i don't think the cherry bombs will improve performance at all, at the moment i only have the one (hideous) rear silencer so this will at least let the engine flow more air.
at some point i'll make an x or h piece to tie both pipes together mid-way, this will help the engine balance exhaust gasses.

side pipes are on (bloody loud!) so now making some removable baffles i can slide up the tail pipe.

What an excellent idea! I take it they will be surreptitiously removed when the scrutineers aren't watching? :-$

yeah they're pretty easy to remove, i wrapped them in silencer packing and secured with a couple of metal ty-raps.
surprisingly they do the job quite well, just need to check the fuelling now :-)
