Hello I thought I would share my plans for my major project for third year of of my automotive engineering degree. The plan is to take Bruce my front wheel drive and try and turn it into an accurate replica of the one of 4wd rally cross car.
Now to do this obviously it needs to be 4WD which will require constructing a transmission tunnel and replacing the rear suspension set up. I believe the original used a shortened 2000 rear axle and I wondered whether I would be better suited using a dolomite one. Also what propshaft was used or was it a custom one. I will also need to reroute the exhaust.

For the interior was it standard or stripped out?

I believe the original car was a TC and mine is not. So I will at the very least need a TC manifold and throttle arrangement. Ideally I want an original TC engine for the faster cam and other differences.

Last thing does anyone have any photos or techinical information on the original car, as I would really like to get the paintwork right.

Paul

T2000s have independent back suspension, the diff is mounted to the floor and the suspension incorporates semi-trailing
arms (like a 1300fwd).
You need to source the parts from an original manual T2000 mark one (not mark two).

The propshaft will be bespoke.

Look at the book "The Works Triumphs" by Graham Robson. The technical spec of the car is given there, It had a Pony gearbox, a 1500 engine built to Lemans spec and a Triumph 2000 rear suspension and diff. The diff ratios at each end of the car were different. Perspex windows, rear doors welded shut, some aluminium panels and a huge bonnet bulge were included and it sat on minilites. One of the suppliers, it may have been Canleys were offering some of these gearboxes for £125 a go either late last year or early this

Yes it was Canley Classics who had the Pony boxes. (the racking for them was used to build the chassis on their Herald stretch) I think one of my CT friends had one from them.
