Nice wee car. The work on the front wing looks very impressive.

They're just so cool, did you change from the Sprintoris wheels to those or vise-versa?

NickMorgan: thanks! just got to do the other wing now! then it will be respray time i think.

JBT:
it was on steelies with hubcaps

2 of the wheels still have the orignal tyres on!

then sprint wheels:

got fed up of the tyres consantly going flat!

so got the slot mags, they are dated 1974 so right for the car 8)

appart from the springs and poly bushes + the wheels its pretty much a standard car, just gone past 45k on the clock and I'd quite happily drive it any where!

impressive work on the wing
I too have to do the same - but on the passenger side around the head light area. I have a 2nd hand spare wing in the outbuilding ready to be cut up and patched up into my original wing. So,Thanks for photo's (gives me another way of approaching the task) and those slotmags!!! -

I am hoping that some time in the future when my dolly 1300 is looking the part, that I will be asked to drive for a wedding (mates or family) and get to do what you have done with yours ;)

Another young'un joins us :D

Keep us posted with any more updates or any more picies ;)

Thanks for sharing

Rob :D

Didn't Rob Marshall write a step-by-step article about repairing a front wing like that? I can't remember which magazine it was in, possibly Classics Monthly.

I thought it was Triumph World magazine?

Great to see your car on here Matt, it looks excellent on the period-perfect wheels. Toledos always respond to alternative wheels well.

I think the article about wing repair was in both magazines to an extent. Is Rob about on the forum?

update from my retro-rides thread

Axle Swap! I've done a few longer journeys in the Toledo this year, at 60mph the little 1300 is over 4000rpm! not brilliant. So I've finally got round to cleaning up and fitting the 1500TC 3.89 :1 rear axle I've had in my garage for the last couple of years. Should bring the rpm down a little with out dulling the acceleration so much. Current diff is a 4.11 :1.

before:

old vs new, wire-brush on the angle grinder, zinc primed and chassis blacked
Image

fitted with new brake lines

then I came to a problem I'd over looked, the brake back plates were different for the two axles. Mine had manual adjust rear brakes whilst the new axle had auto adjust. I've never got on with the auto adjust rear brakes plus my axle has got new shoes and cylinders.
I borrowed a decent Sykes pickavant hub puller from work and got cracking removing the hubs which resulted in 4 bent wheel studs! I tried Various pullers none of which would shift the hubs, even with a decent bit of heat. After that I did a bit of research and found the only safe way of getting these triumph hubs off is using the correct puller.
Canley classics do a pretty decent one:

I went halves with a mate with a Spitfire so the price wasn't too bad.

new puller fitted, hubs popped of with hardly and effort :P Enabling me to pull the back plates off and swap every thing over.

Cars all back together now, fresh ep90 in the diff and gear box, the new axle is nice a quiet and has dropped the rpm at 60 by 300 or so, certainly a improvement.

Post subject:  Re: 1972 Toledo

Over Christmas I treated the Toledo to some gaz rear shocks combined with rimmers -1" lowering springs. To replace the tired monroes and original soft springs that were on the back.
Image

now the springs havent lowered the car much 5mm or so, presumably because the Dolomite is a bit heavier? So i'm glad I didnt go for the stock hight springs rimmers sell I think they would have raised it! The handling is much improved and I can have 2 passengers in the back with out the tyres catching on the arches, which they did with the tired stock set up.

front anti roll bar to fit next, then I really will have a tax exempt go cart
