Right, Ken already knows, but for others, here are the plans (in no particular order)

Disc brake and servo conversion (I already have most of this)
Sprint Alloys (I know its a cliche but what the heck they still look good)
New carpet set in black
Bolt the Rover front seats in properly
Sprint rear seat in Black cloth
Dye or Vinylkote doorcards black
Fit the replacement bonnet supplied by Ken
Repair the osf wing front lower corner and fill in wing mirror holes
A good flat down and a fresh coat of (gun applied) Satin Black with central double White go faster stripes
Add rev counter and oil pressure guage to dash ( have bought a 3 dial pod from Jim so will fit rev counter to dash and minor clocks in the pod on top of the dash a-la Cortina GT)
Fit decent door mirrors (also supplied by Jim)
Put some miles on the clock!

If you think i'm trying to recreate a go-faster-kiddys car from the seventies (the days when I WAS one) you have much to go on!

Steve

Sounds great Steve! I have a huge fondness of 'go-faster' period bits, so am delighted that some of mine will find a home on SB!

PS Yellow Sprint wheels, obviously?!

I'd never have guessed Jim! Dunno bout the yellow wheels though, I'd kinda like to keep it just 3 colours, black white and chrome! What would have looked the biz was those Wellers you sold recently, or perhaps some 5.5j oval hole steelies oh well! And if you do manage to get the rear window louvres remanufactured, it would look ace on this!

Steve

Sorry Ken no work to date, have spent the bank holiday weekend prepping the Carledo for Prodrive on the 18th! Polybushing and Gaz shocking the back end and fitting another brake master cylinder cos the pedal had developed an alarming habit of going hard in a different place at every application!

As promised, I spent the afternoon yesterday happily playing with this car in the sunshine and have made some progress.
The bonnet has been changed for the good one supplied by Ken, I've fitted the back seat from my Sprint (leather Rover seats going in there), swapped the failing original brake master cylinder for the master and servo left over from the Carledo and bled the brakes out and finally given it a thorough tune up which has improved starting and eliminated a big flat spot.
Now I need to swap the inlet manifold for one with a servo take off, however I'm pretty sure I know where to find one!
What I DO need is a Toledo drivers doorcard (4 door) in useable condition and preferably black, any offers?

Steve

A little more progress this weekend, but not all in the right direction! I had done the manifold swap a few weeks ago but failed to post it on here!
When I fired it up afterwards, the fact that the servo was now working meant that THIS master cylinder (which last saw service on the Carledo when I bought it in 2008) was ALSO bypassing (story of my life lately) so this weekends first job was to replace that with a known good one that I just happened to have about. This went on without problems and bled out nicely so I moved on and fitted the main carpet, seat belt centre buckles and a pair of black 1500HL front seats, this for speed cos though Ken supplied me with a pair of half leather Rover 25 seats, it would take me time I can't spare to make them fit! I'm determined to get it MOT'd before the end of the year cos Joe is doing well with his driving lessons and I want it driveable for when he passes his test!
This is where the negative progress comes in, having done all this, I put the battery back on (been on charge for 24 hrs) and went for a startup to test the brakes..... and it wouldn't start! It cranks over a treat but there is not the faintest trace of a fire going on. There is a spark at the plugs and compression present so I took the fuel pipe off the carb and span it over and while I did get SOME fuel out, it was a pitiful effort and the petrol looked manky, almost black! So I took the top off the carb float chamber and what was in there looked horrid too. When I checked the line filter and the pump filter (new pump) they too were full of black crap so I can only think that the rubber fuel lines are disintegrating under the car. I also took out the tank sender (it doesn't work anyway) and, from what I can see of the inside of the tank through the hole, that needs taking out and cleaning too.

This is what you get for laying a car up too long!

On the upside, while poking about in the boot, I found a pair of wing mirrors in good nick so I've refitted them to fill up the holes in the wings!

I still need a drivers doorcard, or better still, a black set since the seats and carpets are now black, preferably somewhere reasonably near here, thanks for the offer Jon but Tan doesn't do it for me (or Joe)
Oh and a Toledo fuel guage sender (2 wires)

I'm not going to be beaten by this, so it looks like next weekend it is tank out and all new rubber pipes on and then try again. I also have a spare fuel pump to try in case this new aftermarket one is fubared and not just choked with muck!

Steve

Heya. I seem to recall that I had problems with crud being sucked through but I am fairly certain that I swished the tank as best I could and was astounded by the amount of shite that came out. Obviously I didn't get it all. I think I also replaced the rubber pipe underneath and may have even put a filter there (not 100% sure or if I am imagining it). The new pump was also a precaution, actually no, it was a necessity at the time. I hope I did a good job with the HG and so on.

Great to see her getting sorted :)

Ken

There is (was) a nice chromey fuel filter in the line below the pump, unfortunately its choked with black bits so, until I can conveniently clean it out, i've removed it. I'll probably put a cheap plastic one in for now. The pipe into the pump looks new but i've not checked underneath yet, the black crumbs MUST be coming from somewhere! Its also possible that the petrol itself is degrading, it says in this months DM that modern 10% ethanol petrol only has a shelf life of 90 days and the stuff in the tank has been there MUCH longer than that!

Steve

PS. While you're looking Ken, is the head unleaded converted? Cos if not, your decoke will have lost it its "lead memory" meaning I will need to run additives in it till I can get off again and convert it!

Could have sworn the chrome one was cleanable. I just cannot recall about the one underneath if it was on the Tolly or a Daf, sorry. Ah yes, the decoke. Umm, it was just an ordinary one mate, sorry for eradicating the lead memory. I didn't give it any thought as all of my brain cells were focused on not f*cking the thing up with amateur spannering. A proper conversion is the way to go.

No worries mate, I rather thought that would be the case! I have a good guy locally who will do the hardened seats for £18 each so its not the end of the world. In the meantime I have loads of additive left over from my sons T2000 which is now on unleaded!
