Dave
they are Teflon :)

the fittings can be a bit annoying....but overall ok.

Hi Bish,

Thanks for the kind words :)

The idea is for it to be loud and noisy and stand out. Also, it needs to stand up next to the vermilion and mimosa cars also in the family.

Hello All,

Happy New Year!

We've had some sporadic progress on 'Kermit' recently, hopefully you will enjoy the pictures below.

Along with thinking about what specific specification I want the engine to be (it's narrowed down to two camshafts, one from SBD the other QED), the engine(block, head, crank etc) are with a machinist based just outside of Aylesbury for the general machining work.

Image

freshly skimmed head :eyes4u:

Image

The block was ceramic coated by a company based neared to Bicester, however when it came back the machinist refused it due to the quality. He is now going to do it himself.

Image

some slight workshop envy.....

Image

we do not need to bore the block, meaning there is potential to use the original Vauxhall forged pistons(if i go for the QED option)

Our good friend Alan has also completed the fabrication on the uprights for the front brake setup. The disc is 280mm from a VW Corrado, along with the caliper.

Image

Image

Image

I have also done the infamous 'breather mod' on the plate which sits in the cam cover. This is to prevent 'oil hangup' in the head, where it gets stuck on top of the plate and cant return back to the sump. Instead, it exits the engine either through the oil catch tank or down the inlet valves, causing puffs of blue smoke. The small plate is left to act as a baffle to stop the camshafts chucking oil out of the breather.

Thanks for your time in reading this, and dont hesitate to ask any questions!

Pete

Looks good and theoretically, shouldn't flake off.

Have a look towards the end of this video, the finish is superb

Why did you weld the Brake caliper mounting bracket to the yoke, and not just bolt it to the yoke ?

i imagine its because we couldnt bolt the adaptor to the yoke and then bolt the caliper to the adaptor whilst keeping it under the wheel

Just read through this whole thing, what a journey! The colour is really incredible, good call on the vinyl roof, and I think Yellow sprint badges will work really well on the green too. Your mum popping in every so often had me chuckling to myself. Great work Pete, keep it going!

Thanks Jake! Cheers for stopping by.

Honestly, the pictures don't do the colour justice, it is really something in the 'metal'.

More progress soon.....

Hello All,

I hope you are doing well :)

Various things have happened since my last update, let me know what you think.

First thing is restoration and fitment of wiper assembly and some washer bottle refurb.

It's ashame you scratched your freshly painted wiper motor, they can be a bugger to fit.

it really was a bugger to fit, that's why it's scratched! considering the scratch is so visible i may get busy with a brush and some black paint....
