This is our Red Sprint - we've had her for nearly six months, and done virtually nothing with the old girl, (save for going along a few great driving roads in the peak district, without a working overdrive!)

- and she's sat outside the front of our house doing nothing, looking a bit neglected -
- as she seems to be third in line for "Project time", after my sons new VW Derby Project, and our newly acquired Sprint Auto....
Image

..she's quite smart - but not original, as John( Previous owner) did a mammoth session and stripped, primed, and painted the old girl in ( ...round about! ) Ten days...
Image

Image
Image

...she's a solid old girl - door apertures perfect...
Image
Image
Image

...solid cills...
Image
Image
Image

...only patch I can see is the boot-to-offside-rear vallance...
Image
Image
...only rotten bit - easy fix ( Johnny Welder Sparks again!)
Image
...altho' this does look a little dodgy - solid tho...
Image

...one slightly bent chassis rail...
Image
....Solid Chassis up top tho'...
Image
Image

...VERY good floorpans...
Image
Image

...does this mean what I think it means...?
Image

...does the " S " stand for something special...?

Rear arches very clean - no bubbles - there's a first for me...!
Image
Image

...rot free....
Image
[/img]http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8505/8480 ... 3192_m.jpg[/img]
...even the roof is clean and rot free...
Image
Image
Image

..to say she's been outside in the snow, Ice, Rain..lots of rain...the paint has held up well!

So, the question is...put it all back together as nature intended...?
Or keep it stripped out, and use as a Demon track day racer...?
..tough call for me, as Iv'e never had a body so good as this one...too good to prang?

any comments welcome...

Note : just put a poll on the main page to try and fix my dilemma - to Race, or not to race...?

Sorry I was being a bit dim and didnt realise it had already been changed to Red.

I wouldnt change it back to Russet now. Its also too good to use as a track car. By all means upgrade it a bit with cams and brakes and carbs and shocks or why but keep it as a nice road car.

You can get much cheaper and less worthy of long term preservation track cars....like MX-5's

My 2 cents.

I may be wrong but I think the S in the comm number denotes a factory fit LSD!
Before you get TOO excited, bear in mind that just cos it had one when new, it doesn't mean it still has one!

So it's destined to go into competition.

Thanks Jonners..I'm erring to the side of putting it back together...keeping it Red I think, not too worried about originality...
...on the plus side - it does have gaz shocks fitted recently, K+N Filters ( altho' I'm not a fan of these, too much intake noise for me - I like the noise to come out of the back end, as it were!)

Thanks Steve...the Factory-built LSD was a surprise! - I'd never looked at the VIN plate in any detail -
- How can you check if its still there..? Markings?

It's looking like she will be a fast-road car at the moment...unless someone can convince me otherwise....?

Jack the back of the car up and turn one of the wheels. If the other turns in the same direction it's an LSD, and I'm jealous.

There is a VA number stamped on the underside of the diff casing. If that has an 'S' suffix then you're laughing.

Yup to both - had a quick check today while painting the boot and cills...back wheels turn the same, and the diff has the extra letter - will try and get a pick - bit difficult upside down!

....and no, its not for sale....sorry

....ta....
.....I really, really like this one now... :eyes4u:

- nearly as much as Doyle, the white auto...but for entirely different reasons.....always fancied both a Hooligan Racer...AND a relaxed " Gentleman GT Tourer-style" Sprint, one for each driving mood!
