Yeah I have a bad feeling it is the timing chain, and i've done the valve clearances and the points so next on my list is the carb fuel float chamber, its rattled for a few seconds every now and then so I guess thats the chain on its way out, shame cos I really dont want the hassle :P

A new fuel filter, oil filter and oil and that completes the tune up lol

EDIT: just tried to replicate the grrr noise, aaaaaaaaaand nothing, im not sure why but it just doesnt want to make it anymore.... Maybe it was just showing up infront of my mates? :P

Hahahahaha sorry I think I might need to rephrase that, a new fuel filter, oil and oil filter and that will complete the tune up :P I hve however cleaned out the fuel float chamber, it was pretty full of crap I must admit, hopefully that'll sort my random loss of power sometimes

I have some good news and some bad news, good news is I took my test in this car and passed first time with no minors! Bad news is 2 weeks later someone hit me up the backside and pushed me into the car infront. Wrote the poor thing off :( Now some other good news, I have had my payout, and it went straight towards my new lovely '71 toledo which is an absolute minter!

Sorry to hear about your Toledo. It is sickening when they are written off like that. I look forward to reading about your new Toledo.
Congratulations on the test by the way.

Shame to hear about the accident :( How about some pics of your '71 Toledo then eh?! :D
Also, did you have to fit different seats to take your test in this car? I'm only saying this as I own a Toledo as well, and may end up taking my test in it, and the law states that the passenger seat must have a pukka headrest on it?

Hey, sorry for not posting earlier, its been hectic! I had the new one for what, a week? When the water pump started going, it had no power, under load it was abismal, fastest it would go at full whack was 60, then on the way home from work the fan belt snapped, and woth no hazards I had to find a layby, cooked the engine didnt I! But at the time the water pump had gone, so swapped that over, new fan belt, then get it running and sparks galore! The alternator bearing had gone! So a new alternator and 1 trip to work confirmed the head had lifted, left it at my mums and got the head off, the head gasket hadnt gone but since the engine was 'refurbed' 400 miles ago I figure the studs had stretched, so new gasket and then put it all back together Aaaaaaaaand it wouldnt work, had some help from my workshop manager and some type of gasket came flying out of the carb! Got it to work, to find out the dizzy vac. advance had gone, swapped that and its running pretty good at 10 btdc, oh yeah, the head had to be skimmed 11thou, glad to have it running now tho! Now for pics, big again (sorry phone doesnt like image upload sites :/)

Just been reading through this thread mate, got to say some commitment there eh? Im only 19 and was the same when I got my Dolomite 1850 last July... cost me an arm and a leg to get her where she is though but has been worth it so far *literally touching wood table* haha. I had to change the alternator (twice), replace crap loads of hoses, get the clutch, overdrive replaced..... you see where im going :P Just keep with it if you can, that 4 door dark blue Toledo looks like a cracker, quite jealous really looks lovely :)

Good luck anyway and keep us updated!
Jack

Thankyou! :D its starting to become worth it, before with the accident and the problems I just wanted my old one back, but now we (me and the guys at work) have nearly got it sorted its starting to make me forget about my old one, the drifting roundabouts in the wet is helping alot ;) have you got a thread for your 1850? Would quite like to see it :D

On another note, exhaust is blowing, changed downpipe gasket to the find out the weld has blown on the flange... Its slowly getting there, oh, and after a trip down the A14, I now have 2 stonechips above the left light, all the way down to primer :(

Yeah fantastic :), good to hear I think we all get a bit attached with our Dolly's (its hard not to after all the work they require lol). Yeah roundabouts are much fun (until a point haha). I wish I did!, I haven't at the moment just never got round to it... have many pictures etc but need to put it together at some point. Ah yes my lovely non annoying exhaust took a couple of hundred quid and two different garages to get my blowing exhaust sorted out... basically craply fitted center box underneath was hanging too low kept hitting speed-bumps which kept slowly pulling exhaust "backwards" so exhaust manifold downpipe to exhaust connection had fallen apart. Had to have the inside metal "ring" welded back together in the end... nightmare haha.

What's the plans after its all sorted out anyway?, keeping it standard/modding it etc?

Thanks
Jack :bluewave:

I'm gonna' have to disagree with the wet roundabout statements...

The Tolly looks really nice, almost looks like two shades of blue depending on the lighting!
