Thanks to Rich's co-operation an original '73 Magenta Sprint has been saved from having a Mazda MX5 engine transplant. Just before he got his reciprocating saw to it (literally) to convert into a 'drift car' a deal was struck and it was swapped for a good Vermillion 1500HL. Anyway, the Magenta machine had been fitted with a twin carb 1500 Dolly lump back in 1990 - why? The car was on 'cars for sale' on here for a while and nobody was interested - why? I even offered to provide a Sprint lump super cheap for it. Eventually it appeared on ebay and Rich bought it. I then made an appeal to swap it for my mate Aaron's 1500HL (which had been uprated to Sprint spec in preparation for fitting with an RV8 lump) on this very forum and a deal was done.

We found the answer to the question regarding the fitting of the 1500 lump when we removed the tunnel. The (original Sprint) tunnel was welded back together after having been ripped open by what must have been overdrive or prop failure - wouldn't like to have been sitting in the car when it happened!

Last Sunday the work began to restore the beast back to its former glory whith a reconditioned Sprint lump and restoration. Pictures of the removal of 1500 lump, 'box, subframe and prop will follow. Note that the 1500 bits will be going free to collector (from Cirencester) soon.

photos to follow ...

Dave

So now we see the subframe, lump and 'box coming out (photo size reduced!) ...

If anyone has any history of this beast would love to know it.

Was it run without an expansion tank when the 1500 unit was in it then?

Yeah, the expansion tank hose appears to go straight through the wing...

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark, and we're wearing sunglasses.
Hit it.

Unless someone prefers to mount the expansion tank in the arch I fail to see how that setup could work...
It wouldn't hold water for long!
