Been on this forum for a about a year now & it has been very useful looking at past post on different subjects.

It has helped me alot with ideas & suggestions for modifications for my car.

I purchased MSO 662P last year, the car appeared in Fast Car magazine in 1989 as it had been modified, the article is below:-

Since 1989 the car changed hands a few times. About 6 years ago while parked outside the previous owners house the car was hit by a passing car, damaging the front & rear panels, work was started on the repairs but then stopped, it was then stored in a barn for 5 years.

Car as I purchased it, looking very sad

Before I started to dismantle it, I did get the engine running & I actually drove it into the garage, then dismantling started:

So that's about it so far, I should be getting the painted shell back in a couple of weeks so in the meantime I am rebuilding the front suspension & cleaning up the back axle ready to go back on the car.

This looks like its going to be a really good thread!

Are you modifiying this new shell to look like the old one? Recessed door handles and de seamed, etc?

Hi Dan,

I am not deseaming the shell, but most of the chrome is going. I am keeping the black boot panel & surrounding trim.

The original car had Marina door handles fitted to the front doors only, the rear doors only opened from the inside.

As I have kids I wanted door handles on the back doors, I did look into Marina door handles for the back but it didn't look right, so I am sticking to the originals.

The Chevette rear lights are going in, as are the Escort front indicators.

The colour is also undecided, I do like French Blue, but as it is so modified I am thinking something non standard, can't decide, need to make my mind up this week!

This is great, I still have the article in a folder I put together when I was younger. it even traveled with me stateside and is tucked away on a shelf with other sprint related articles.

!
Surely if you have kids you don't want door handles on the rear door? :P
Also worth noting is the new MOT rules state that the car should have handles inside and out if it did originally.
Although I was told by a drunk bloke in a pub that some friendly testers will overlook it.

Started to clean up the back axle tonight, what a boring job!

The axle has a Powr Lok LSD fitted, but weird though it only has 'VA S' stamped on the casing no numbers?

Also fitted the T2000 front tie bars & new lower wishbones

Not much time this weekend, got the nearside suspension finished including Trackerjack brake conversion (cheers Jon), would have done the offside but Rimmers sent me 2 nearside lower ball joints!

Thanks for all the positive comments & enthusiasm for the car.

I really am finding it hard to decide on the colour, I should keep it French Blue as per the article but I fancy something different to put my mark on it.

I would go with a unique colour scheme Tony, something a bit different.

Re: your tie bar bushes.
Are they in the right way round? Im sure on mine, the tapered part fits towards the subframe, not away from it as yours are?
Or mine could be wrong and yours right

Hi Mart, thanks for that, I will have to decide soon, I found a couple of pictures of VHK the other day from when I first bought her in 2007, keep meaning to post them.

Hi Matt

I took some advice (see thread Front Tie Bar in Motorsport section), Ian - Sprint95m - reckoned the flat side of each bush went against the subframe, I am sure the inside one does as the cupped washer is the same shape as the conical side of the bush, so it makes sense the outer one is the same.

I think it looks right, but need a T2000 expert to confirm.

Cheers

Tony

Got the rack on tonight, I ditched the solid rack mounts as they were shot, I opted for some polyurethane bushes, they were a cheapish kit off ebay.

It seems solid enough but the bush has not closed up completely when I have tightened the U bolts up, is this normal?
