This is a 1500 I bought back in Easter.

Engine is fine and runs without knocking. :D

But the bodywork is the main trouble and I'm planning a long - term thorough (ish) restoration to extend the life of the car.

However, I'm told by others that this will still mean it will only last 3 years.

But I don't think that will put me off Dollys just yet!

I had the opposite problem with our project 1500HL, the body was solid, except the lower wings and front valance, but the engine was fooked an engine replacement has turned into a long term fulkl nu and bolt restro.
Have you removed the fuel tank as the boot floor can be quite crusty underneath?

p.s. Welcome to the forum and it's good to see someone else saving one of the proper engine Dolomites.

That looks very nice indeed and looks to be a great basis for something very special...

Do keep us posted on progress as, and when it happens!

Yes, the pic of the fuel tank is after removal, rubbing down and painting. The rust wasn't too bad although the fuel tank had surface rust all over, which wasn't too much of a problem. I've waxoyled the boot floor and base of the fuel tank to stop this rusting in future (he hopes [-o< )

By "Xs" do you mean "X" reg? Yes, it is, I think 1978.

There are not many 'X' plate Dolly's about.

If its X reg then is 1980/1981, meaning its one of the very last built.

Its its 1978 then it should be on a T-V registration.

Looks a good sound car and welcome to the forum.

Nathan

I believe this comment refers to the game of noughts-and-crosses on the windscreen in Pic 1

Or more likely it means it was sat round in a showroom unregistered for a few years but having just read Jod's post I think he could be right.
Sarah's 1500Hl was one of the last off the line (apparently) and on a W plate.

Nath, a 1978 car would normally be on a S or T suffix. It is possible for cars to be registered a few years after they were built. RobSun's Dolly 1300 (which was at NDD) is on a Y plate even though it was built before prodcution ceased in August 1980.
