Hi there everyone. I just thought I would introduce myself. Im Karl. Im new to the site. Recently I bought myself a Triumph Dolomite 1500. VTM 21S. Having loved the looks and shape of these cars for years I thought it time I got myself a little project to do in my spare time. The trouble is, my spare time is now spent on Dolly, much to the wifes displeasure.
It also seams I have bought myself a bit of a pig in a poke. The more I do, the more I find needs doing. Rust and holed floor pans being the biggest problem. Luckily when I bought the car, it came with two new sills, rear wheel arches and a recon od gearbox. The engine runs well and the interia trim is ok, except the wood door caps and rear seat back rest, which have become sun damaged and thread bare.
Having found most of the parts I need to put her right, im struggling to find a rear screen rubber. But all in all I've found most parts can be found quite easily.

Hi. I will try and upload a few pictures. Before I started, most of the work looked superficial. But the deeper I got, the more I found needed attention. But she hasn't beeten me yet.

Hello Karl, nice to have you along.
Where abouts in Nottinghamshire are you? If you're close enough,we have a meeting in Chesterfield every month-you'd be very welcome to join us.
Joining the club is a good idea-it will give you access to the club spares and various other benefits.

James

Karl

That new wing will fit better if you take the old one off first :D

Only joking..... Nice to see another Dolomite being looked after and you will find they are a very knowledgeable bunch on here and very helpful.

Good luck

Thanks guys. I would be very interested in the Chesterfield meet. When will the next one be held? Te old wing is off, well almost. Im trying to be a bit delicate around the inner light plate as there isn't much of it left. Im hoping to salvage as much as I can so I can fabricate a new piece. Also the front valence is pretty much shot in that area.
I got the nos wing on ebay for £200. I think that was quite cheap as I have been unable to find another elsewhere. Rimmers can now only provide glass fibre.

That's half price these days if you can even find one.

Keep up with the pictures , they always go down well and good luck with the project.

Rusty bits....

All standard "charm". Keep cutting it out and grafting new in and eventually you end up with a great little car. Especially with overdrive.

Crushed chassis member. Photo doesn't really show the true damage. Its actually crushed flat. Not a happy bunny.

Kwik Fit did that to my car in the 1990's when they jacked the whole front end up on the chassis legs. Squashed them flat despite being made of solid metal.
I only realised when I got home so they refused to sort it.I was only 17 and unable to hold myself in arguments back then.I was comforted by the manager with the words "it's only an old car mate - soon you'll be able to afford a decent car....like my Orion".

You may be able to rescue those with a slide hammer but in reality its an engine/gearbox out and subframe off job to replace the chassis legs.Club spares do them.
