Thank to a couple of friendly helpful CT members I shall be collecting a one family owned barn find Triumph 1300TC early next month.
The car has been stood since 1989 and although this pic was taken five years ago I believe it hasn't deteriorated much due to the dry airy storage location.
Out the 20 plus Triumph 1300's that have passed through my hand over the years I have never owned a TC and promises have been made for the car to be restored, I have most parts including some of the rarer panels so fingers crossed for this one.....
Image

It will be a slow restore as I'm already working on two other cars but it the engine is in fine fettle and not to much welding needed my target is the TSSC may bank holiday camping weekend to get it in a usable state.

Keep us updated. I don't need to offer you any pearls of wisdom as I know that you know these cars inside out. Have you any more recent photos? I'm glad that this has ended up in good hands. The plate looks familiar. I'm sure somebody on the Club Triumph forum had one with NJT on the plate. Is it the same car by any chance?

Cheers Chris, I will give you a shout when I'm at the workshop over a weekend.

Dave, not sure but likely you have seen this car before as I believe the owner was/ is a CT member and it was advertised by a CT member on his behalf.

Looking forward to the instalments.

Yes dad it is Damson, kinda, and of course I always will think of you when someone offers me a free car.

Cheers Grifterid, hoping it still is that good.

I feel like an expecting dad-to-be awaiting for his new arrival this could possibly be the longest few weeks of my life.

No, there has been conversation in the past about converting one to RWD, in fact David and I did do all the measurements and a sprint (sorry to swear) engine will fit in with a bit of tweaking (subframe mounting are in the same place) but changing the rear suspension would be very difficult due to correctly locating and lining up the swing arms and shocks, the rear arches and boot floor would need a lot of metal work as well as would fitting in a tunnel .
But as the saying goes, with enough time and money anything is possible.
I do believe someone did start cutting up a Toledo with the idea of grafting on a 1300FWD front end to give the illusion of a 1300 converted into RWD but not sure what happened to that one.

There was a one-off 4WD conversion done by Triumph in the 60s for rallying. Sadly, the car was written off. I beleive there are a few of the Pony gearboxes still surviving that are in the possession of Canley Classics which came via John Kipping.

Justyn, the guy you're referring to is Gordon (That Man) who posts on here and the CT forum.

Well today was the day when Yogi and I jumped into the borrowed Pikey-mobile, a 1990 Transit beaver tail, in white of course to collect this barn find Damson 1300TC from a hidden barn in deepest Dorset. Back to the workshop via a local jetwash to clean off 24 years of dirt, mud and rust to reveal a rusty but saveable car, the outer sills on first inspection appear okay, the innerwings are solid but the inner strengtheners (is that a real word?) are shot, the roof vent panel is solid but the rest is just how you would expect BL finest to at 43 years old.
Engine is seized but not yet tried to free it but will likely strip it down anyhow.
Interior will require a complete refurb, not yet decided if to keep the catsick colour of go black.
I will be giving the car a full go over on Wednesday.

Pictures will be posted as soon as they have downloaded from my phone, changing to SKY was a big mistake and reminds me of the dial up days of internetting.

This weeks update..... Engine was very seized (not Chris Morris seized!) so engine out and stripped down, front wings off, inners are not to bad are will be repaired most of the under bonnet bits are removed.
Hoping to get the 'box and subframe out tomorrow.
Had a look underneath and it will need new sills but the rest of the underside is okay.

I'm looking forward to seeing pictures of the work. Judging by the pictures on Facebook it looks like you have a mamoth task ahead of you. I'd love to have a 1300 again one day - I regret selling my TC now!!
